Hi there, A happy new year to all!!!!! Yesterday I was watching Space Cowboys again on DVD (one of the only Clint Eastwood films I can sit through and enjoy), and I was wondering if the score by lennie Niehaus was ever released? I used the search engine at the MM website and found out there was talk about a promo. Was it ever released?
There's one cue on the rather good new compilation disc, MUSIC FOR THE FILMS OF CLINT EASTWOOD; it features old Clint standards (Rawhide, Dirty Harry) with tracks Lennie Niehaus orchestrated from Clint's compositions (Unforgiven, Absolute Power). Included are several otherwise unavailable tracks: Space Cowboys, True Crime, Tightrope. There's also a lengthy suite Niehaus wrote for a documentary series on Clint.
Saw the movie for the first time since the original theatrical release. I'm surprised that I didn't take much notice of Lennie Niehaus' score back then because it is truly great, especially all the cues heard from the time the Dadelius crew reaches space (fourths-based string harmonies are especially effective) until time the shuttle returns to Earth.
This score is a winner and definitely deserving of a CD release.

I have the SPACE COWBOYS cd soundtrack and it does not have any Niehaus music on it---just songs from other artists such as Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, et al.
