This was a blind buy for me at the time. I just knew that Basil Poledouris + John Milius = Great Score. And I wasn't disappointed. A friend of mine was quite surprised when she heard a gorgeous symphonic track from this surfing movie, and the Hawaiian Slack Key guitar stuff is very nice. It is also a good example of how a song that is related to the score can be much more effective than one that hasn't been seeded throughout the film.

All together now: Down along the coast a way, Lies upon its back today, The crumple car, Great decay. She ran aground in '53, Now a victim of the sea, Shore-shapingly, Left to be, Just a crumple car. Up on the finger reef she lay, Up on the beach in the middle bay, The crumple car, Is there to stay. High tides come and circle her, Leaving red rust for her fur, She's not alone, The ocean kingdom calls her home, Crumple car.

This was one of those inspiring first scores that actually gave me faith for the future of film music.
