It's coming out on Blu-ray this November, for those interested.

I've never seen a single episode, but I saw the feature film, which was....well, OK, but a little too "kiddie" for me. Doesn't this show have like a 100 episodes or something?

Yes, I think it's a bunch of five minute episodes combined. It's not bad actually.

That was the original "2D" series which was on Cartoon Network before the CGI redux. (The 2D series has since gone out of print on DVD).

The CGI series - strangely - became more "serious" after the film, which was *very* cartoony.

Now I'm confused, which one is coming out on Blu-ray then?

There are two Clone Wars series. The first was Star Wars: Clone Wars from a few years ago, done by the guy responsible for Samurai Jack. It was made up of a series of 3-4 minute installments in 2D animation.

The second (and current) series is Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is a full half-hour CGI series.

As for the DVD, I may pick it up. I originally had no interest in it because I did not like the 2D series at all (I didn't care for the animation style similar to Samurai Jack or the short aspect), but I've caught bits and pieces of episodes from the new series over the last couple of months and had to admit I was kind of impressed once I actually saw it. So I may get the DVD to catch up in time for Season 2 this Fall.

It would be the TV series of "The Clone Wars". To clear up any confusion:

2003 - 2004 - There were two seasons of "Star Wars: Clone Wars" cartoons, created by Gennady Tartakovsky, which was intended to bridge the storyline between Episodes 2 and 3 of the feature films. Season 1 was comprised of 20 mini-episodes totalling about 70 minutes, and could be watched seamlessly on DVD. Season 2 was restructured as five 12-minute episodes, and leads directly to the opening of Episode 3. I believe these two series are now OOP on DVD.

2008 - A feature-length CGI pilot movie "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (ST:TCW) was produced, with a storyline involving Jabba the Hutt's kidnapped son(!) and the introduction of an apprentice for Anakin Skywalker. This has also been out on DVD for a while already.

2008 - ongoing: A regular TV series, also called "Star Wars: The Clone Wars", comprising 22 episodes of 22 minutes each was produced, and Season 1 has finished. I think Season 2 will premiere at about the same time the DVD/Blue-Ray Season 1 boxed set comes out in November. This set apparently does not include the pilot movie, so you'll still have to buy it separately.

I believe that a season 1 volume 1 single-disc release, comprising the first 4 episodes, has been released on DVD, with volume 2 (another four episodes) coming out in September. Of course, it does make you wonder what Lucasfilm is thinking by releasing these piecemeal, when the complete set is coming out only a few months later.

Okay. Here's the simple answer.

The season one (2008) of Star Wars: The Clone Wars, the COMPUTER animated series, is coming to Blu-ray.

This is NOT the older show that is being referred to.

This is very entertaining show! Some episodes are better than others, of course, but it's quite satisfying to me. Too bad this show wasn't done before ROTS came out.

I think you'll be quite happy with the DVDs, Henry!

My parents got me the Complete Series Blu-ray set for my birthday earlier this year and I'm hooked! It's great!
