It seems 2009 is the year of the great (Horner) "miracles": Honey, I shrunk the Kids, Something wicked this Way comes, The Journey of Natty Gann and a complete Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan (WOOOOW). I guess a complete / expanded Star Trek III is just a matter of time.
I never would have tought I would see the release of any of the titles above in my lifetime but it happened!
I'd already given up any hope but their is a possibility now that we'll see a (complete) release of his 48 hrs. / another 48 hrs. scores. It's Paramount and as far as I know no masters are lost or destroyed. Would be a great Cd (48 hrs. is some 23 minutes long and Another 48 hrs. is some 25 minutes). Maybe with The Bus Boys songs as a bonus (I actually like those songs) to make a 78 minutes album.

I'd certainly like to see 48hrs/Another 48hrs on CD. A bit cacophanous to listen to at times, but I liked all the different types of percussion that Horner used on those scores.

damn right both scores should be released in expaned forms!

we need more of Horner's classic wild jungle sounds!

48 Hours, Another 48 Hours, Commando and Red Heat are classic Horner scores.

I demand it now!

I would love to see a cd of 48 Hours and Another 48 Hours. I do have a b@@t of 48 hours and the soundtrack to Another 48 hours which only has about 20 minutes of each. I seem to remember both films having much more music in than that or was that my imagination?

The score to 48 Hours is much longer than 23 minutes. Where did that come from? The unmentionable features 17 minutes of it and there's more missing like the climactic showdown between Nick Nolte and James Remar in Chinatown. I would be nice and say 30-35 maybe and it would be longer if you include the two songs by the Bus Boys including "The Boys Are Back In Town" Trust me it ain't that short.

Another 48 Hours is the least favorite of two scores for me although some of it is based on the original score and there's more than just 20 minutes of it. The score got a very bad mix in the final film and it wasn't great to begin with.

Personally I'd rather have 48 Hours on it's own than pair it with Another 48 Hours. But if it's the only way to get 48 Hours released, then I'm all for it.

48 hours is "one of those" scores that I've always wanted to be released. The score music (since my first viewing of the film -- which was long ago), I can still remember off-hand. The "Commando" score can actually bring one back to bits and pieces of 48 hours (which is not surprising...hee hee), but I'm still hoping it will be released one day.

The score to 48 Hours is much longer than 23 minutes. Where did that come from?

I don’t no where I read it but there was a label (Varese???) who wanted to release the score
but didn’t because it was just too short (making it too expensive).
I figured it out and it is indeed very short (some 23 min.):

01. Main Title (3:34)
02. Escape in Progress (1:00)
03. San Francisco Morning (1:01)
04. Hotel Shootout (3:18)
05. Trip to Jail (0:31)
06. Tailing Luther (5:12)
07. Metro Station Chase (1:30)
08. Luther on the Move (1:14)
09. Chinatown (4:40)

Then there are 4 songs by The Bus Boys and one source cue by Ira Newborn

- (The Boys are) Back in Town
- 48 Hrs.
- Love Songs are for Crazies
- New Shoes
- Torchy’s Boogie (Ira Newborn)

Now “Another 48 Hrs.” has more cues but they’re all very short (some 25 min. in total):

01. Main Titles (1:43)
02. The Race Track (0:31)
03. Visiting Reggie Hammond (0:44)
04. Hammond's Big Day (0:27)
05. On the Bus (1:04)
06. Jack gets shot (0:45)
07. Attack on the Bus Part I (1:03)
08. Attack on the Bus Part II (1:25)
09. Searching for Burroughs' Indentity (0:30)
10. King Mei Hotel Arrival (0:24)
11. Ganz and Hickok arrive at the King Mei Hotel (0:56)
12. King Mei Shootout Part I (2:04)
13. King Mei Shootout Part II (3:12)
14. The Iceman calls Burroughs (0:44)
15. Malcolm Price Shot (0:39)
16. The Courthouse (0:36)
17. Unfinished Business / Killing Burroughs (1:53)
18. Reggie and Amy get Caught (0:32)
19. Following Cruise / Cage Club (1:22)
20. Bird Cage Battle (3:30)
21. Nothing worse than a bad cop (0:23)
22. "Shoot me Jack!" (0:17)

Maybe there is some unused music or alternate takes which could make it (both scores together) into a 70+ album.
But I guess it’s all about getting the rights from Paramount, Arista and Scotti Bros again.

I still think there's more music to 48 Hours. There's a few scenes that were deleted from the final film that may have been scored by Horner. Varese probably would've released it as is, but I guess there was another reason why they didn't. Since it's never been released before in any form, no label shouldn't have issues releasing it.

Now Another 48 Hours, any label releasing it would have to deal with the original licensee which is Scotti Bros for the current tracks on the album and then Paramount for the unreleased material. Which is basically a new reuse fee for those specific tracks. But

We'll see what happens. I think we'll see both sooner or later.

Well, just watched the film to see how much score was missing from the previous release (and to enjoy the music) and MusicWizard was right in posting the above cues. I was going to start another in my series of Unreleased Complete Score Breakdown threads, but figured MusicWizard had already posted the pertinent unreleased material breakdown as listed above.

A few extra notes...

Approximately 25:00 minutes of film score as heard in film, a really short film score for Horner! 19:48 previously released -- however, the four cues are somewhat suite-ish, for example the film version of Main Titles runs approximately 2:00, whereas the album cut of Main Titles is 4:12, featuring material from the rest of the score. Additionally, the album version of The Courthouse is different than the film version, which could bump up the material for a complete score (including alt versions) to maybe 28 minutes. Still a very short score. Finally, music from the original 48 Hrs. is tracked in towards the beginning of the Birdcage Battle scene, and since I wasn't sure what cue from that first film it was from, I can't say...but it seems that the album version of Birdcage Battle is longer than the film version.

All in all, still a very short score, and unless there is substantial bonus material to be had, I don't see this one being released anytime soon, unless paired with something else (Red Heat expanded, perhaps?). Personally, I would enjoy having the complete/expanded Another 48 Hrs. because I enjoy that sound, much like Red Heat, Commando, and 48 Hrs.. Maybe one day! Ultimately, I was shocked at how little score there was in Another 48 Hrs., although admittedly it is a shorter-running film at 95 minutes, there are lots of pop songs in the film, and Walter Hill seemed to like playing a lot of the drama unscored.
