Nice article,Thomas. I have a friend in New Mexico who knows Dominic and asked him for me about THE INVADERS scores. Dominic has NO tapes of those recordings, and has no clue where to look. Sad. But perhaps now that La La Land has cracked the Paramount barrier, they may know something about the location of these scores.

As much as I'd like to have Frontiere's scores to THE INVADERS, if someone were able to locate all the original tapes, I'd love to have Duane Tatro and Sidney Cutner's music as well. A 2- or 3-CD set of THE INVADERS scores would absolutely be one of my holy grails.

According to LLL, "The Invaders" is a property of CBS which exploits the title on DVD through Paramount but the music right is just CBS. CBS owns all the major 1960's series. I don't know what is CBS' policy when it comes to soundtrack CDs? In my opinion, the key of Frontiere's 60s music lies in "Stoney Burke". Too bad, the series is not on DVD: calling MGM!

I'm not sure STONEY BURKE, as good as it is, has enough of a fan base or rememberance for them to justify a DVD release, but so many other obscure titles have come out I may be totally wrong here.

I still want to hold out for the complete Star Trek TOS scores, and Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. ;-)

Bad news, Charles, CBS owns the rights of "The Invaders" and they refuse to release their soundtrack catalogue. PS: I own a CD of Jerry Goldsmith entitled "The Early Years, Volume One" that is a license from CBS. That remains an enigma?

I guess the soundtrack for the tv series The Immortal would also be impossible since it is owned by Paramount.

Please watch this clip from "The Weapons Man". The music of the plan landing heard after the opening titles is recycled in "The Outer Limits" episode "O.B.I.T.". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaK0E723E6A That cue was also in THE HUNDRED DAYS OF THE DRAGON- I think maybe another time, too. The credits type for STONEY look EXACTLY like the type utilized for TOL. Small wonder, same company.

The credits type for STONEY look EXACTLY like the type utilized for TOL. Small wonder, same company. Both series used the type named "Franklin Gothic Heavy". PS: the fanfare music used in "The Hundred Days of the Dragon" belong to "Stoney Burke" when Selby crosses the crowd (supporters and the press) to go to his room in Act 1 as well as the campaign trail scene. PPS: Still in "The Hundred Days of the Dragon", you have a recurring snippet from "Point of Entry", executed by a Fender guitar but there's no trace of "The Weapons Man" as a music portion but only as a stock footage when the little plane lands.

I'd kill, well almost, for even a single CD of Frontiere's music for the Invaders. Until then, I'll have to be happy with the "Invaders" cue from the Unknown. Unfortunately, the actual droning, creepy Invader's theme isn't to be found anywhere yet that I know of. Who knows, maybe someday... I thought I was alone in the world hungering for an Invaders and/or Rat Patrol CD. In fact, I had e-mailed LaLaLand several times and they indicated it might eventually be a possibility. I did not know of this CBS connection. Is there any way to advocate with them to release the soundtracks. Why do they refuse to do so? I believe they also own the rights to The Wild Wild West soundtracks. On this or another board, I had read sometime ago a list of the episodes fans of Richard Shores would love to have--that is, of the music for them. I assume this situation does not bode well for that release, either? On an interesting sidenote, I have a VHS tape I made years ago of The Love War and much of the music on that can be found on a recent Frontiere release, A Name for Evil/The Unknown, which features The Invaders theme. Hope to hear there are ways we can advocate with CBS. Some of The Invaders music is among the best scores I can recall.

Some people (Prometheus) succeeded in releasing late 50's TV stuff from Herrmann and Goldsmith. But the case of "The Wild Wild West" is more complexe because the rights are splitted. A label, that I won't name, tried to release WEST but CBS answered "no". I believe it's a matter of picking the good executive inside the company. It's all deal making and find a compromise with all parties which own the rights. MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE is owned by four parties if I recall. To get back to Dominic Frontiere's television scores of the 60's: "Stoney Burke" (MGM) is feasible as well as "The Rat Patrol" (Fox).

What is the music to STONEY BURKE and THE RAT PATROL actually like, Thomas? I've never seen or heard either.
