Only just realised, listening to the Prom yet again (day off) that the only real era of the series not represented in the Classic Series section is the TV Movie starring Paul McGann. The actual Doctor was in clips in the videos, but not the music. Clearences might be complicated here, since the production had no less than three composers!, John Debney, John Sponsler and Louis Febre.
Shame, as they are responsible for the first truly orchestral score for Doctor Who.

Kari, I'm listening to the Series 6 disc again, to refamiliarise myself with it, after some time believing it's a 'lesser work' based on my recent assessments regarding the lack of themes etc. Partly because of your listing and partly because I watched The Impossible Astronaut last night as a start to watching that season through. There are some tremendous sounds in this first story. I love the Edda Del Orso style wordless vocals ( Mae McKenna in this instance), and the track Help is on it's Way is tremendous! Starting with that sassy, jazzy Bondish outburst, followed by a touch of the Zimmerishness from the recent Batman trilogy, and THAT is then followed by the nicest Herrmannesque/Hitchcockian passage I've ever heard!
Murray may wear his influences on his sleeve sometimes, but my goodness he does in such style. All your favourite movie music styles in such a small, compact place. Now I'm on to Graystark Hall and that woodwind is SO reminiscent of Bride of Frankenstein, with some very Hammerish elements soon after that would make James Bernard proud!
Thankyou my friend, for pointing me in the right direction. I'm loving it. I hope they do a concert not too far from you one day. They've made a start. The first outside the UK was in Sidney, Australia fairly recently. And I believe the show's doing ok in France so you never know. I do feel we've done extermely well, with six concert hall performances, and a whole tour of arena shows for those who can't get to the capitol, all of which have guest presenters and monsters (original costumes too).

Can't wait for the 50th Anniversary Special which looks like being feature length, and in 3D for a cinema release. Surely this will get it's own cd? All those themes to be touched upon, and mixed together. Maybe a couple of new ones? The John Hurt Doctor, the Zygons ( a great Classic Series monster to have only appeared once before in the mid 70s). I suspect the studio version of Song for 50 will be included on this. Not to mention this year's Christmas Special with Matt possibly getting his own Vale Decem, and then a new Doctor to score for. SO much to look forward to!

Yeah, I did see that coming. I would have been surprised if he made it through THREE show runners. (OTOH, I don't know the historical track record of Who composers.)
An amazing body of work. Voyage of the Damned is still a favorite.

Where does one begin with Gold's music? Totally unfamiliar with him, Dr. Who's music in general and so forth - i.e. what's the most orchestral of his output?
Personally Season Three and Four are my go to's. Seasons One and Two are good (and on a single disc) but the budget is lower. After that the sets get more massive and are (IMHO) harder to get through.

Well he's written music for more DOCTOR'S then anyone else, even Dudley Simpson.
Doctor's 9,10,11, The War Doctor, 12 and the regeneration into Lucky 13.
Plus you can add in the 8th Doctor if you count the Web Episode they did with him that was tracked with Mr. Gold's music.
That's a hell of good run.
Not a bad moment to move on and let someone else take their turn in the TARDIS.
It's not like he's retiring or anything, I'm looking forward to what new projects he tackles next
And to the new person, Break A Leg.
