A remarkable woman and really dazzling talent. She was a voracious reader. I read an interview where she said that she read all the books recommended that would qualify one for a college degree. As to the comments at the White House-- she was right.
Though I honestly thought "Santa Baby" was an awful Christmas song, she was easily the best thing about The Emperor's New Groove. A shame. Nobody should have to lose someone on Christmas day. My heart goes out to her family.
I knew little of her, or her material, but know that when I hear her sing I enjoy the performance (and I do have recollections of seeing her in one or two TV chat-shows or productions).
I've thought many a time of buying a CD collection of her songs but refrained in case this amounted to overkill. I enjoy the songs I hear but too much may spoil that magic.
I didn't like the Catwoman role she did...it really stuck out (especially in the 60s)with the racial difference in the continuity of the series. I am not prejudiced but can't see the need to replace established traditionally "white" roles with black actors just for the sake of "hipness" (see Will Smith in WILD WILD WEST and Michael Clarke Duncan in DAREDEVIL as the Kingpin) What if they made a BLADE or BLACK PANTHER movie with a white guy in the lead? We'd never hear the end of it on CNN from Jesse Jackson etc. Anyway-RIP Ms. Kitt, who was a great singer and talented lady.
she is just sensational as ANNA LUCSATA , it is a shame her movie roles were so few. and as an entertainer she created a unigue persona that has yet to be duplicated. she will be sorely missed.
"Santa Baby" is an awful song, but Eartha's version is still better than Kylie Minogue's. And Madonna's.
It's a great song! It's in my festive gig repertoire - instrumental on saxophone to a backing. I was unaware of Eartha's passing but I happened to play it Christmas Day for my in laws (I was told it was the raunchiest version they'd ever heard - with lots of growling and very bump 'n' grind). So I'll consider it my Eartha Kitt tribute.
