No, Dan, but that's because I seldom watched color films on Channel 2. I have no doubt what you said was true, though, since every film chain system back in the early days had its own peculiar anomalies. WOR used to wetgate their films and, occasionally, a whole glop of fluid would fill the film gate.

My strangest WCBS experience was watching ABBOTT AND COSTELLO MEET CAPTAIN KIDD on Picture For a Sunday Afternoon. It was a black & white print that opened with the RKO Radio tower accompanied by the Warner Bros. fanfare. Even at a very early age I knew enough that this was a strange combination! I've since acquired one of those RKO reissue prints to prove to myself I wasn't having hallucinations!!

With the Gone with the Wind theme and those great views NYC. Yeah, I miss those pre-5000 channels with nothing to watch days.

And "The Late Show" movies (unfortunately truncated), featuring Leroy Anderson's "The Syncopated Clock." Then, alas, came Carson and his clones and out came talk, talk, talk . . .

They actually gave June billing for those airings even though she was just an eleven year old uncredited member of the Cratchit family? smile

I remember the Laurel And Hardy "March Of The Wooden Soldiers" used to be a Christmas staple on Channel 11 for many years. I haven't seen that film since the days WPIX used to air it!

Didn't WPIX or Antenna TV air that this Thanksgiving, or am I misremembering?

YES MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS-34 was a stable on THANKSGIVING DAY for years too. I believe they did show it again this year?

Goes to show how rusty I am when it comes to checking the schedule! (that's what happens when you do most of your watching on DVD)

I'm sure tonight's BABES IN TOYLAND on TCM will be the transfer used for the MGM DVD. Uncut and in beautiful B&W.

As a side note - I just bought a reel that had a very rare reissue trailer for MARCH OF THE WOODEN SOLDIERS on it. The soundtrack area of the trailer leader was marked REVENGE IS SWEET (another alternate title).
