There is one question that remains though: how am I to covert it to MP3/ AAC for mobile use?

I don't think MP3 or AAC can handle stuff this hi-res, so it's a good thing that the 2L label provides a hybrid SACD which you can easily rip to those formats, and if I'm not mistaken James is planning to include a CD version with the Blu-ray audio for Obsession. Other labels like Naxos usually provide a separate regular CD option so you have to choose whether the highest quality audio or easy "rippability" are more important. Yavar

Anybody have any Blu-Ray audio soundtracks? Thoughts? Are there any soundtracks on Blu-Ray audio yet? The new OBSESSION recording will be on Pure Audio Blu Ray .....in Spring OH yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm interested in these as I'm (nearly) always looking at ways to improve my audio system. I've sort of dispensed with the AV system ... but then again ... I separated my AV and Hi-Fi a few years so as to get a better Hi-Fi experience and the dedicated Hi-Fi amp, etc. is so much better than the excellent AV amp ... but it does not play 5.1, merely stereo. The two systems are linked so as to use the stereo speakers as the front speakers in the 5.1 set-up (using Pre-outs from the AV amp). However, my wife bought me the new re-mastered release of Rachmaninov's 4 piano concertos + Rhapsody - Ashkenazy/Previn/ LSO - see: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rachmaninov-Piano-Concertos-Paganini-Rhapsody/dp/B00JEPZVT2/ref=sr_1_11?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1418807782&sr=1-11&keywords=rachmaninov+piano+concertos This set includes a Blu-Ray version of each concerto and the Rhapsody and so I've looked to experiment. Yes, I can play the disc as per any BD and route it through the Hi-Fi amp (as above) for 5.1 sound and it sounds wonderful. But not as good as the CD recordings, ripped to my NAS and played through my Hi-Fi streamer (which is better quality than my CD player). So, I've now connected the (optical) digital out from the BD player directly to the outboard DAC in my Hi-Fi setup and whilst I lose the 5.1 I do get improved sound. So much so that I then bought a BD of a concert: Abbado/BPO performing Brahms' Violin Concerto, Dvorak's 9th Symphony, etc. Same result: truly wonderful sound. However, I'm not going to dispense with my 5.1 set-up and I don't see BD as replacing my NAS library. But given that extra-special release (such as Barry's The Last Valley, Thunderball or OHMSS on BD ... I'd be very tempted to add them to my collection. One disappointment: the DAC accepts HD signals (defined as greater than 48kHz - CDs are generally 44.1kHz) and I hoped to hear (see re: panel light) the effect of this ... only it appears that BD audio streams are downgraded re: copyright protection. In summary: yes, the sound is cleaner, clearer and more alive ... but I think there may be manufacturers' limitations at play, too. Mitch

Yavar Quite true, I know that MP3 and AAC is not high-res, it's not what it's for. Which is why a regular CD version along the Blu Ray woudl be perfect. The quality of high-res I can only appreciate on a good home stereo system, I don't think it makes much of a difference when listening to music on your mobile and in your car. As much as I like high-res formats at home, it is still essential to get a digital copy of the music. Currently, I'm ripping all my CDs to Apple lossless, and from the lossless files I make AACs "to go".

Wow, I had no idea that the Ashkenazy/Previn Rachmaninoff set had been issued on BD-Audio! I love those performances. only it appears that BD audio streams are downgraded re: copyright protection. You need to use an HDMI connection between your receiver and the BD player.
