I was just perusing the Intrada forum and one of the posters on there said he had a chance to speak with Julie Taymor and asked her if Goldenthal was not able to provide music for her future films, who would she go with. apparently, she liked Greenwood's score to There Will be Blood and would use him. Cool.

I do hope Greenwood continues to get film scoring assignments. His style probably only appeals to the art-house crowd but it would be interesting to hear his approach on various projects in the future.

That is highly interesting; I admire Taymor's taste. Coincidentally, several minutes before seeing your thread, I was seized upon to load up Greenwood's "There Will Be Blood" score on my iPod and listen to it again today (probably because I ran upon "Future Markets" while it was on shuffle yesterday). Great score. I hope to get around to seeing the film sometime soon as well.

Future Market's was the music used in the trailer and that was the piece that also got my attention. It is so rare that a film trailer uses the music that is from the film any more so that was a pleasant surprise to find said piece on the score.

I also like the more somber string/piano writing along with Greenwood's use of the e-bow which gives a glassy, sustained sound to the guitar. It blends well with the strings.

It's my favorite score from last year. Easily. In fact, I cannot recall any other really interesting scores from 2007. I should look back at FSM to see what came out...

Greenwood makes me happy.

Taymor made me happy until Across the Universe . . . now I'm sad.

Oh, but I'm listening to Greenwood now . . . happy again!

There was also: Youth without Youth, Lust Caution, L'Ennemi Intime, Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, Angel, The Golden Compass, Zodiac - all fairly solid works.

Yes, I did like the Desplat but none of them made the same impression on me the way There Will be Blood did.

YWY is quite possibly my favorite score from 2007 . . . I also think it's the only score to never leave my iPod once it got there. Just bloody brilliant.

I have been listening to some of Jonny Greenwood's music. "There Will Be Blood", "48 Responses to Polymorhia." and a few others, his music is very interesting but almost devoid of any melody. "TWBB"'s music works perfect in the film, but as seperate listen somewhat of a bore. I think contempory composers can be very modern and still have a good sense of melody i.e. John Corigliano. I will be interested to hear what Greenwood composed for "The Master". Greenwood is part of a rock group called Radioheads which I have never heard, from lack of interest.

That "Intrada forum poster" who got the chance to talk with Julie Taymor - that person is actually me. Julie Taymor was a guest at the Gothenburg Film Festival (here in Sweden) a few years ago. I went to a seminar that she had and afterwards I got the chance to speak to her - and after that she did also sign the Frida soundtrack for me.

Greenwood's scores devoid of any melody?

Can anyone of the Greenwood experts here check this?
I suppose the first half of the trailer includes something Greenwood could have done... but no idea what it is... or perhaps it's something completely different?
Any ideas, anyone??

Beltrami is scoring, and his score for the Oscar winning The Hurt Locker featured a riffing on Greenwood's work with the cue "There Will Be Bombs." Perhaps that will be his approach for this film? Can anyone confirm he has recorded this score?

The score was recorded in February.
The movie opens in about a month in France
