That score is in my top 10 favourites. Such a rich feel-good theme for Quigley himself. It's a well rounded score with Poledouris's trademark intergration of electronics/orchestra. The secondary brass motif for Quigley is somewhat foreshadowing of Starship Troopers. The banjo/guitar add alot of novelty/beauty to the score. Hardly a dull moment, maybe drags slightly in the middle.
Very enjoyable score for a very enjoyable movie. Probably one of the first times I really noticed the music in a film, though I didn't get the soundtrack until sometime in the mid-90s. But I can remember, shortly after the film came out, "singing" the theme at school and telling my classmates what it was when they asked.
The only quibble I have with the Prometheus album is that the banjo is a lot less prominent in the mix (especially in "The Fire", where it's barely audible).
Other than that, the extra music is wonderful to have. A great presentation of a great score.

If I have the original, do I need the expanded?
I also have the original but picked up the expanded issue a few months ago along with King Solomon's Mine's, it it well worth purchasing!!
i adore this score. also way up there in the rankings for me. better than the movie deserved, though it's not a bad movie but has a strange tone throughout. i think i'll listen to it right now!
Theres a cue or two missing off the Intrada CD that I really love - Dingo Attack especially, though it works much better in context with the film - so I'd say its worth hunting it down for that.
Besides, would you rather pay full price for MORE music or LESS music?
