The reason I bring this song up is because I heard it at work today and it brought back good memories. What do you guys think of this song? I love it, even though it beat out my favorite song "For Your Eyes Only" for an Oscar.

Love the song, love the score, and really love the movie. Dudley Moore was such a funny, gentle sweet soul. He really left us too soon, but if all he ever did was this wonderful movie, his legacy would still be cemented IMHO.

Moore was SO damn good as a drunk I wouldn't be surprised if he really was drunk when he made those two films. I'm sure he wasn't of course, but some of those scenes, he is just too good as a drunk. I think the sequel had some funny funny moments as well.

Amazing that it took four people to write a song with such a hackneyed chord progression. That's Hollywood.

Well, let's just be generous and say that the song brings back fond memories, shall we? Sort of like smelling a cologne or Perfume that evokes a memory of the past. Like BRUT.

For me, it's all about that wonderful, jaunty instrumental theme that plays throughout the film, especially during driving scenes. I still have the old LP but haven't listened to it in years. The album version of the theme gets a little weird, but the version heard in the film is incredibly effective and fun. Classic comedy that I hope too many haven't forgotten. It would help if WB would put out a proper widescreen DVD.

I'd welcome a soundtrack release to "Arthur" in a heartbeat.

Wrong 'em boyo. Star Wars is crap.

I stand corrected. But it sure sounds like one of those, and that's never a good thing.

Out of curiosity, what do you consider "not-hackneyed" songwriting? And don't just say Sondheim.

It didn't take four people to write what you call the "hackneyed" chord progression - it took one - Mr. Bacharach. The other three collaborated on the lyric. I believe the hook is all Peter Allen.
