Oldsmith said, "Joe Harnell is in there with the greats of TV like Stu Phillips, Alexander Courage, Jerry Fielding, Mike Post and lots more." I say, I understand why you placed Jerry Fielding in your list, but I don't think he belongs in that company. He's in the upper echelon, wouldn't you agree? Not at all, he's in fine company in that list. All of those mentioned created some of the most effective and memorable music for television, which is the context I was keeping it in. Also the part that says "and lots more" implies this is not a conclusive list. I know Fielding from his TV stuff mostly, which seems to have been the majority of his credits. What little I have of his from films sounds a lot like the stuff he scored for the small screen. Simply going by that, I don't consider him to be in the upper echelon of motion picture film scoring. But this is a personal preference, nothing more. Still, even if a composer doesn't break into feature film scores, it doesn't necessarily mean he or she is a lesser talent. Shirley Walker did mostly TV work and she was a compser of considerable talent. Just sayin'.

Still, even if a composer doesn't break into feature film scores, it doesn't necessarily mean he or she is a lesser talent. Shirley Walker did mostly TV work and she was a compser of considerable talent. Just sayin'. There used to be a firewall that kept TV actors off the big screen, with only rare exceptions like Adam West and company in the 1966 BATMAN movie. Today, every actor with a hit show seems to get the lead in a major motion picture or two. Maybe in the future we'll see a further blurring of the line between TV and film composers.

I think of Fielding as a film composer, and not just one of the very many talented film and television composers working back in the day, but a giant, who's music is difficult, transparent, and in another league all together. You might have written Williams or Goldsmith.

Fielding is not the only feature film composer on the list. I scored 26 feature films. 24 of them before I worked at Universal. Check my web site for titles. SP Hi, Mr. Phillips. We should have caught that ourselves. I remember my Dad taking me to see BUCK ROGERS in the theater, just to name a recent CD release of yours. Hey, it's nice to see you stopping by!

Got my copy of this CD yesterday and have been enjoying it very much. Thanks to all involved - I hope there are more volumes. In transferring the CD to iTunes so that I could put the album on my iPod, I notice that the Gracenote database has been updated to give most of the cues meaningful track titles.

You might have written Williams or Goldsmith. If they had spent the majority of their careers doing television work, I would have.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE BIONIC WOMAN, THE: Episodic Collection Vol. 2 THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT PT. 2 - Music by Joe Harnell http://yhst-76230688982511.stores.yahoo.net/biwothreofbi.html (Sept 5th, 2008, Los Angeles, CA) JOEHARNELL.COM presents THE BIONIC WOMAN: THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT PART 2, featuring music composed and conducted by Joe Harnell for the 1970’s cult television show, THE BIONIC WOMAN, created and developed by Kenneth Johnson (THE BIONIC MAN, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, V) and starring Lindsay Wagner, Richard Anderson, Martin E. Brooks, Ford Rainey, Martha Scott and Jennifer Darling, along with special guest stars Sandy Duncan, Stefanie Powers, Ted Cassidy and John Saxon. THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT Parts 1 and 2 are a sequel to a specially-aired episode from the second season of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN. Part 1 of THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT began as the 4th season premiere to THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN and concluded with Part 2 as the 2nd season premiere of THE BIONIC WOMAN. Picking up on story elements from that second season episode of THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN, a rogue splinter group of alien explorers, led by the evil Nedlick, here played by veteran actor John Saxon, have taken control of Sasquatch, played by Ted Cassidy of THE ADDAMS FAMILY fame and are forcing Sasquatch to steal elements necessary to construct a force field around their base camp in Mexico, in order to make it impregnable and allow the aliens to continue in their efforts to steal more of the Earth’s riches and resources for their own benefit. By the end of the first part of THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT, Steve Austin is near death, after being exposed to a lethal dose of radiation. His only hope is to be treated in time with the aliens’ wonder drug, Neotraxin. Jaime Sommers is the only person who can save him and stop the alien rebels from taking over the world. In the second part of THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT, Jaime allows herself to be captured by Sasquatch to gain entry to the aliens’ complex and then escapes to confront Nedlick and his gang of rogue aliens. But their complex, hastily constructed over a volcanic vent, is causing a build-up of pressure that will soon cause a volcanic eruption that will lower the entire floor of the Pacific Ocean. Ultimately, it is Sasquatch who must risk his own life to prevent the volcano from erupting. THE BIONIC WOMAN: THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT PART 2 continues Joe Harnell's successful creative collaboration with Writer/Director/Producer Kenneth Johnson, a relationship that includes fondly remembered television projects such as THE INCREDIBLE HULK, HOT PURSUIT, CLIFFHANGERS, V: The Original Mini-Series and ALIEN NATION. Moving to California in the early 1970's, Harnell emerged as a celebrated composer of film and television music. He has been nominated for an Emmy Award on three occasions for Best Dramatic Score. During his career, Harnell composed over 400 hours of original music for motion pictures and television. His scores for THE BIONIC WOMAN and THE INCREDIBLE HULK heavily influenced the scoring of all Universal television programs in the late 1970’s. His scores used a traditional orchestral approach (influenced by his Jazz roots) using a 32 piece orchestra. He frequently conducted scores from the piano during recording sessions and he performed all the piano and keyboard solos in all of his scores. THE BIONIC WOMAN: THE RETURN OF BIGFOOT PART 2 is an exclusive joeharnell.com release, professionally mastered, factory manufactured and limited to 1500 units. BIONIC WOMAN, THE: Episodic Collection Vol. 2 is available for pre-order at www.joeharnell.com and starts shipping on Sept 15, 2008. Other recent titles released available from WWW. If you like your 70s sci-fi/action scores populated with outspoken brass, uptight strings, talkative hi-hats, bubbly bongos.... -Josh Unforgettable prose, this. If this Josh fellow ever "perchances" to cross my path, I will NOT fail to mention his bubbly bongos.
