They're getting a blu-ray release, starting this year. Would be a nice tie-in.

Where do you see that? I see news of a PA1/2 double feature disc overseas but nothing in the U.S.

I am amazed that the first PA still hasn't see the light of day. One of Folk's best and that theme is instantly recallable.

Hopefully the PA films will be one of the five box sets M.V. hinted at the other day. I doubt it but a man can dream... smile

1. X-Files volume 2 (4 discs, in a box)
2. Another 4-disc title (no box)
3. A third 4 disc set (no box)
4. 5+ disc set (in a box)
5. 5+ disc set (in a box)

POLICE ACADEMY boasts one of the most recognizable and catchy themes of the 80's, and the films were quite popular (well, the first few, at least). If an *official* score CD were released, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. So what's the holdup?

Every time a request comes for Police Academy, you always get the same remark: 'yes, the theme is good, but do you really want a complete album?".

My answer: YES!!!!!!!!!!

That is my answer as well. There are only three "holy grail" cues that I'd love to hear:

-PA 2 - The opening theme which segues nicely into a dark cue for Sweetchuck (Tim Kazurisnky) when he's closing his store
-PA 2 - he big shootout that takes place in the aforementioned store
-PA 6 - the music for the climactic cherry-picker/monster truck/bus chase

I would purchase "many, many" copies.

HAHAHAHAHA!!!

Yes indeed! If the "main theme" being the best part was the standard for whether or not an entire score was released, we wouldn't have many of the great albums that we do today.

The latest entry into my Throwback Thirty series of reviews is of the classic comedy score for POLICE ACADEMY by Robert Folk, which was one of the box office hits of 1984, and was recently released for the first time on CD by La-La Land Records.

For anyone who's interested smile

The CD still is not sold out. Which unfortunately seems to confirm the fact that comedy scores don`t sell. I guess that`s why LLL didn`t continue to release more Miles Goodman scores as well. From a musical - and not a commercial - standpoint that`s a shame, since there are so many wonderful comedy scores.

Nonetheless I still hope LLL will release more Police Academy scores.

This is why some of us were hoping for a 3-5 disc set. If the first underperformed it may have sunk the prospects for future releases. Interesting Naked Gun got a multi disc set so all the music is out at once.

BTW I was just spinning this today. It's in constant rotation.

Different studio, different advances, entirely different situation.

3-5 disc would have been cost prohibitive

I freaking love this score! I'm SHOCKED beyond belief this is not sold out. This is one of THE best themes of the 80's in films. I was listening to this in the car coming home from Varese. RECRUITS is my FAVORITE track. Anyway, LLL, THANK YOU for putting this out. I hope you made some money back because it's so damn good. smile

I fail to see how a 3000 unit release not being sold out in 10 months somehow equates to "comedy scores don't sell".

Me too. lol

It sold very well...nearly 2000 units so far. It's by no means a failure.

There are always exceptions -- Airplane, Blazing Saddles and 1941

More Police Academy are certainly in the cards, but we need to get a few other WB projects out of the way first. Maybe in 2016 we will see other PA scores.

And before you guys start complaining about nothing happening until 2016 please note that at WB the approval process can be very time consuming. We currently have 4 projects in the approval stage there and most likely only one of them will be out by the end of the year. That means, the 3 other ones will be out in 2015. And THAT means some of the WB titles scheduled for 2015 will have to be pushed back to 2016.

Glad people are enjoying this. Now if only someone would put out his two prior feature film scores: THE SLAYER and SAVAGE HARVEST: Thematic, sweeping horror/thriller scores from the days when low-budget horror films had great music, both performed with zeal by the National Philharmonic Orchestra and recorded by the great Eric Tomlinson.

THE SLAYER's main theme in particular is incredible; A sinuous, infectious, classically-rich melody worthy of iconic status in my opinion:

PLEASE? Someone?
