POLICE ACADEMY boasts one of the most recognizable and catchy themes of the 80's, and the films were quite popular (well, the first few, at least). If an *official* score CD were released, I'd buy it in a heartbeat. So what's the holdup?

I was thinking a lot about the Police Academy scores.
I think a 2CD set with "best of Police Academy 1-7" would be great!
I hope someday some label will release it.

Totally.
I grew up watching these flicks and would love to revisit the Patton-inspired music.

The only soundtrack that was released was an LP from Police Academy 4 with a lot of songs and only cut by Folk so does anyone have that one? I know that the Robert Folk representation on that LP was NOT the actual theme but another score cue. I remember once just before I started collecting CD`s my local LP/CD store had this Police Academy soundtrack and I even remember holding it in my hands but did not buy it so if there would be a score release I would not regret buying that LP.

Good question! I'd love a Police Academy score-cd. I've been playing the 9 minute suite on Bob Folks promo for years and I'd love to here more from that score in particular.

It always bummed me out, though, that Folk got stuck in the comedy-genre. Beastmaster II, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and even Never Ending Story II remain among my favorite cd's. Spectacular orchestral stuff! And a composer who is not afraid to use a theme composed of more than 5 notes wink

Please do not forget Arabian Knights (The Thief and the Cobbler), one of Folk's best! I hope this doesn't open the debate again of how this score ruined the movie that took 30 years to make. The score is great! I would take any Folk score that was unreleased or need to be expanded!! Very underrated composer!!

And TOY SOLDIERS is fantastic. I used to like LAWNMOWER MAN 2 as well, but haven't played it in years.

Robert Folk is an outstanding composer, and he should score top film. I think -after John Williams- John Debney and Robert Folk are the most talented composers, who can actually write very intense, well written music for full orchestra.
Beastmaster 2, Neverending Story 2, and Lawnmover Man 2 (wow how many sequels...) were all great scores! Folk has a style what's very attractive to my ears. His action scoring is one of a kind.

I agree but....where is he now? Was he typed cast to do comedy with the Police Academy series, Ace Ventura : When Nature Calls, Trapped In Paradise, Kung Pow and In The Army Now? If John Williams is still composing there is plenty of room for Folk? Maybe one of Intrada's new releases will be Folk?????????

I think Mr. Folk unfortunately falls into the same ditch that the great John Morris and others like him have fallen. Known mostly for rousing comedic scores, their legacies languish in crates or on shelves or in boxes somewhere, never to be released or treasured anew. Yet, you can get a friggin' Police Academy theme ringtone! Blah!

Actually, Mr. Folk has two non-comedy scores coming up. One will be a Vivaldi bio-pic (adeptly called 'Vivaldi') and a supernatural thriller called Silver Cord. I'm hoping that both will lend him the opportunity to compose the melody driven score we've been discussing here.

Here's to cd-releases of both!

WOW Police Academy sounds like a Sci-Fi score! Very Jerry Goldsmith in parts. Robert Folk can score anything, if he's given a chance.

I'm sure it will be released legitimately very soon.

I remember an interview where Folk discussed VIVALDI possibly about 3 years ago but still it didn't get released.

I read in the Empire Movie Magazine that Steve Guttenberg was in negotiating to DIRECT the next Police Academy movie (number 8) so when that movie hits the theaters I really hope that someone could do what they did with Indiana Jones when the fourth movie came: Releasing a box with the earlier movies' scores, that would be awesome.

And since there`s a new movie in the pipeline I think there`s never been a more perfect time to do this long awaited release.

Or they have plans for an album of the soundtrack for the new movie and don't want it to be interfered with releases of the older PA scores.

Well, the film is still in production, isn't it?

Back then when Intrada was still releasing scores by Robert Folk I recommended a few times his wonderful score for THE SLAYER.

Unfortunately it was never released.

Managed to catch one of the Police Academy movies on TV a couple weeks ago and it reminded me of how much I love the music to this series. I've always wondered why Intrada hasn't released at least the score to the first movie. This is great 80's Robert Folk. It deserves a release. I love Folk's "Toy Soldiers" too but I've always wanted to have the music to Police Academy too. Now I will go make someone laugh with my Bobcat Goldwaith impression...
