As much as I enjoyed Bob Newhart (and especially
the sexy Suzanne Pleshette) I never bought any of
that series on DVD, but have really wanted
Newhart. Happened to see it at Best Buy today. smile

On a side note, I just happened to see that Suzanne died last month. frown

We watched the first episode last night. Wow...what a miserable first show. The feel of it was like watching bad, live theater. The lighting, the sounds, the clarity... It was horrible. And nothing was funny.

We skipped to the next episode and things began to click. My big beef is, Bob always seems to be looking at cue cards. It's very distracting.

I seem to remember Newhart with Michael and Stepanie in it, so maybe everything got much better in later shows (Season 3, maybe).

The show doesn't really take off until the 2nd season, and then it really gets great by the 3rd and 4th. The first season is shot differently, very humdrum and poorly timed. I'm amazed it got continued for a second season!

As much I love Bob's '80s Newhart show, I'm still really irritated that Fox has released this first season when they have failed to release the final two seasons of the '70s BN Show (and they have no plans to do so). Makes no sense.

You're right. Everything is off and very humdrum. And the maid is absolutely annoying and can't act for beans. I'm also surprised it was picked up again for more seasons.

What about Cheers Season 9? There's another one that's taken eons to get a release after the first 8 seasons came out like clockwork. Finally, in April, Sammy now has his bar back and I can't see what happens. I don't remember seeing much of Seasons 9-11 (or is it 12?), so I'm looking forward to them.

It's also happened to "Home Improvement". The first 7 seasons came out regularly about every 3 - 4 months...but suddenly, before they deliver the final season (8)...nothing. We're coming up on almost a year since season 7 came out. Buena Vista is tryin' to kill me!

Hi guys! I just bought season 1 the other day and I'm half through it and love it! I'm really gonna love this series if it gets better and better, I love it already! I will buy all the seasons. Love the theme song too.

Bob Newhart was one of my favorite entertainers. I loved "The Bob Newhart Show" and "Newhart".
(I even got a book about Newhart one Christmas.) Though to be honest I don't know if I would enjoy either show today. One of the things I loved about his shows is he (for the most part) refused to have kids on his show.
