Delighted to report that I've doubled the number of fellow posters that I've actually met - to, um , two. For the esteemed MusicMad and the charming Mrs MusicMad called in for dinner on their way back home after a visit up north. The conversation ranged far beyond film music (to the evident relief of the ladies present) and gifts were exchanged as is customary on such occasions, but of course under-pinning it all was a shared love of Barry and Morricone scores. We also discovered that we were both at the first John Barry concert at the RAH. And to add to the coincidence, neither of us were at the Morricone concert in London the other year.... 'Twas a necessarily brief encounter, as they had many more miles to travel, but we enjoyed it at any rate. Thanks for dropping by, MM. I can't say that I can fully agree with Tall Guy's summation of the meeting: as he's the first other FSM member I've met I haven't doubled the number ...! But otherwise, yes: a lovely get-together (besides being a welcome break in our long journey) in which 3hrs passed far too quickly. I think we FSM'ers did well to keep the film music discussion to a minimum (so as to include the ladies in the conversation) but there's always next time. It is not Tall Guy's place to mention the following but I am more than happy to do so: Can you imagine being invited to someone's house - someone who you have never met, merely corresponded with by email for about 12mths (and one very brief 'phone conversation) - but not only that, being invited to dinner, to be wined and dined and entertained by a lovely family ...? Until yesterday I couldn't imagine that scenario but now I know it to be true. There's generosity ... and there's generosity. To open your house to visitors you have never met and to welcome them to dinner, et al. ... well that falls most definitely into the second category. So thank you, Tall Guy and thank you to your lovely wife and family. My better half and I thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope that we may reciprocate some day. In the meantime emails will suffice. And may I add a thank you to the FSM board organisers, for without this board ...

I think we FSM'ers did well to keep the film music discussion to a minimum (so as to include the ladies in the conversation) When I first met Armin (a friend from the MMUK message board whom I met upon his arrival in Australia last year), he was accompanied by his girlfriend. I felt terribly guilty, because she was trying to participate in the conversation, but Armin and I were so engrossed in talking about film music (for over three hours straight - and that was before switching venues in order to continue the conversation!) that she got lost. We've resolved to have a more general conversation next time.
