Many directors/producers has a good relation with the composer of their films. And give them the chance to appear in their films playing an extra role.
Some I can remember:
- Chris Young - Spider Man 3 - Alfred Newman - How to Marry to a Millonaire - If I don´t make a mistake, I remember have read in FSM... Jerry Goldsmith - Gremlins 2

Do you remember some of that role?
Byes.
Whereabouts is Chris Young in Spidey 3?
John Barry appears on screen for probably longer than any other film composer in Bryan Forbes DEADFALL and also has a short cameo at the end of THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS.
Alfred Newman - THEY SHALL HAVE MUSIC Max Steiner - GIRL CRAZY (RKO version during title sequence) Max Steiner - The Half-Naked Truth (pit orchestra conductor) Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Magic Fire Bernard Herrmann - The Man Who Knew Too Much
My favorite was Tom Tryon telling Goldsmith to stop playing his lounge stuff by the pool when Barbara Bouchet starts her drunken suggestive dance in IN HARM"S WAY. Herrmann comes in second as the conductor in THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH. Then there was: http://fsm.rciwebhosting.net/board/posts.cfm?threadID=35008&forumID=1&archive=1

In Gremlins - Jerry is the man (sit if I remeber) in the big hat in the telephone booth when the father calls home from the convention (also note that the man that rides by on a bike in the same scene is Steven Spielberg).
In Gremlins 2- Jerry and wife Carole are at the ice cream or yogurt stand and he actually has a speaking part, "Rats?...."
Don't forget marc shaiman! The guy basically became big with his cameo as a TV news jingle composer in broadcast news ("BIG FINISH!!").
From there on, he appeared in a lot of movies in little cameos as piano player or even as conductor. He was also in Hot Shots, Addams Family, South Park or Down With Love to name a few. He is clearly the king of composer cameos.
Andre Previn appears in an un-credited bit part as an auditioning pianist in the opening of the 1946 Republic soap opera I'VE ALWAYS LOVED YOU (directed by Frank Borzage). He plays a piano transcription of Bach's D minor "Tocatta and Fugue".
Georges Delerue scored and appeared in François Truffaut's "La nuit américaine" and "Les deux Anglaises et le continent," as well as Philippe de Broca's "Les jeux de l'amour."
