So yesterday was the get together at the place where I currently work. Prizes were awarded and I won three! A fifty dollar gift card to a restaurant, a certificate for a free Domino's pizza and another gift card to a Mexican restaurant good for one huge burrito.

razz

So you can just continue the parties at those places - for free! smile

With the Christmas party season approaching, here's a tip for the guys if you have a party in your office. Take a photocopy of your todger, but magnify it by 400% and leave a copy in the "In Tray".
This only works for guys, as a female's ladygarden magnified 400% would be very scary indeed. Err, I think.

This year, I'll be hosting my 14th Annual Christmas Party, on Dec. 11th.

But you guys might not want to attend. The food is great. (I always make my famous baked ham.) But there's usually no liquor, as I and practically everyone I know don't drink. Either AA, or just not drinkers.

It's always so intriguing to hear about all the drunken, hungover antics of posters on this Board. It has often made me wonder if a liking for soundtracks is linked to alcohol. Some of the major Golden Age composers could have been classified as alcoholics, though it doesn't seem to have impaired their output, as a rule.

I may have brought this topic up before on these threads, but it might be that it strikes too close to home with too many posters.

Anyway, we always have a great time.

Hope you all enjoy your parties....

I've been to some fantastic & outrageous (the power of alcohol!) company Christmas parties down the years, but I think for a lot of companies it will be a muted affair this year (& maybe the last few years). About eight years ago I went to this huge company Christmas party, tons of food & drink, a band playing, & they gave you chips to use in a little cassino - just two (maybe three) years later, same company, it was a handful of people in a room above a pub! This year I'm meeting a few old work mates & we'll just go for a little meal somewhere...perfect.

I'm hosting my husband's family again this year on December 18th at an Open House from 2-7pm. There will be plenty of (good!wink) food, warm apple cider, and alcoholic beverages for those who desire it.

This year we are having at least 2 office parties. I will attend a luncheon with just my department. I will not attend the big corporate party, because I cannot stand being around those phony $&()^$*)(@$'s anymore.

Happy Holidays!

My parents' company holds an annual Christmas party. Admittedly, their employee roster isn't huge, but once friends and relatives are entered into the equation the day ends up being a lot of fun. Usually the events are trouble-free, but a couple of years ago the main party was held at a golf club, and unfortunately one of the staff got a bit too enamoured of the freebies at the table during the party, and during the round of golf which came later, he put the golf cart into a tree. Needless to say, the company wasn't invited back the next year. embarrassment

Gearing up for the third Christmas party this season tonight....although it's still noon and it's a while before I can drink something.

Just flipped open the first beer of the night, a classic Danish Christmas beer, while I get ready for the party:

Listening to Infected Mushroom on the stereo and trying to ignore my damn tinnitus.

Job. In a private home. Ended a bit early, at 01:45, I could surely have continued for a few more hours. But at least that's a sign that it was a fun night! Had Tapas, incredibly good food!

Sounds like a nice evening! Things are usually more calm in private homes.

We ate at a restaurant first, but went out to a big disco afterwards (dancing to all those great 80's tunes!). Unfortunately, I got sick after I downed my 11th pint, so I had to call it a day at 2:30, which is very early for me. Had to spend half an hour after that battling for a taxi with a million other drunk people in the icy snow weather.

Oh well....good times while it lasted. Not feeling too hot today, though.

In 2007, I wrote....

He, he...yeah. For many years, we (as university teachers and tutors) had to sign a statement that forbade us to engage in "indecent" and/or sexual relationships with our students. Now, thankfully, this has been abandoned, so I can be the "sleazy old (young?) teacher hitting on the students"!! big grin

Before you cry "moral outrage!", though, I should point out that I like to keep a professional distance to the students that are closest to me and that I'm tutoring. I'll most likely hit on the master students that are somewhat further removed professionally, but closer as friends (as they are, after all, just a couple of years younger than me). I'm not sure that makes it better, but there you are.

God, I was really on top of my game back then with annoyingly high confidence. It's weird to look back on now.

But anyway, it's that time of the year again.

I've already had a couple of 'Christmas tables' and I will continue to have a couple more.

One tonight with my colleagues.

What about you?

My team at work go out for lunch next Friday and then we will probably stay on for a few drinks. There's also a full office party out but I don't attend that as I can't be bothered socialising with people I pretty much try to avoid the rest of year. I don't really do anything with my friends as such, as I go to my local a couple of times a week anyway and see them.

That's fair.

Personally, I've always been interested in meeting new people. Since I don't have a girlfriend or family of my own, and am fairly old for such a social status, I'm 100% dependent upon having a wide circle of friends to retain the basic social need that humans have. The best parties are those that have a couple of your old friends with the rest being strangers. Also a great way to meet potential partners.
