I love ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE, and of course, the score is a standout. It was originally supposed to be Connery's last one, but they had problems or something with either the script or locations (maybe both), so they put a hold on it and filmed YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE instead.

YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE is my favorite Bond-song and score - those violins are just amazingly powerful http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/smile.gif">

I read somewhere that Sean Bean was at one point considered for Bond, after producers saw him in his SHARPE'S television series.

To me, "Octopussy" ranks as one of my favorite Bond films and the best Moore film, as it finds a perfect blend of serious story (the tension buildup to Bond defusing the bomb surpasses even the tension in the climax of Goldfinger) and overall sense of fun. Roger should have gone out on this one though, as "View To A Kill" is unquestionably the weakest of his efforts.

Ditto for OCTOPUSSY. It's definitely one of the most fun Bond movies and has some of my favorite sequences: the mini-jet pre-credits scene, the fight on the train, the bomb in the arena, and the fight on the plane between Bond and the big henchman.

I thought VIEW TO A KILL had it's moments, but it is a weak entry.

I know you don't like LICENCE TO KILL (personally, I love it), but didn't you like getting to see Q have such a bigger part than usual?

Are there any original Ian Fleming books left to film that would be worthy of Russell Crowe?

Where did everyone find out that Fiennes is going to play Bond? Is this official?

Additionally, I agree that Adrian Paul should be next...

...followed by me, but of course. http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/wink.gif">

My favorite Bond film is ON HER MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE. It's got the best and most atypical Bond plot, the best Blofeld (Telly Savalas), the best Bond girl (Diana Rigg), some of the best scenery and photography of the entire series, my favorite fight scenes, the best song ever in a Bond film ("We Have All the Time in the World" by Louis Armstrong...you just can't beat that!), and the most powerful score John Barry's ever done for a Bond film.

As to George Lazenby's performance...well, it ain't great, but let's face it, the character of James Bond doesn't require a great actor. It's nice, but it's not essential. That said, it was Lazenby's first movie, and he was pretty darned good in it. (It's a pity that his voice while disguised as Sir Hilary Bray was dubbed in by another actor; Lazenby is, and was, a talented mimic who could've risen to the challenge had the producers allowed him to do so.)

I would've preferred Sean Connery (for my money, the Best Bond!), but I doubt the producers would've been quite so adventurous with the movie.

NP: The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, Volume Four (Laurence Rosenthal and Joel McNeely)

I'm not a James Bond geek at all, but I most humbly think that Brosnan is the best Bond of them all (boy, am I going to get slaughtered for that!). His looks, his class, his roughness. Perfect.

I also happen to think that the recent Bond films are fine. Every franchise needs updating or a "reimagination" of some sort.

Oh...about Fiennes as Bond....well, I guess he could do well in the part, but why change it if it ain't broken? Keep Brosnan, if he's willing.

Soundtrakker - As far as I know, there are no Flemming Bonds left to be filmed. However, there are a whole slew of newer novels written by John Gardner that could probably be adapted. He does a nice job emulating Flemming's style while creating his own. I've only read a couple, but I wouldn't mind seeing NEVER SEEN FLOWERS, which has a climax set on the Mark Twain river in EuroDisney, turned into a film.

I agree that On Her Majesty's Secret Service is one of the better Bonds. It's just that Lazenby is like a gaping hole in the middle; I would've prefered Connery in this rather than in Diamonds are Forever.

Am searching for something else, but found this on the way so bumped for sheer amusement.

OK, can't find what I was searching for, so I'll post here. The expanded OHMSS seems to be out of stock at Amazon UK and the prices have steepened a bit. Is this on the point of selling out? The same could be true of FRWL as it, too, seems to have gone up in price since last checked.

They should give that "Remington Steele" guy a chance...

Not that Diamonds are Forever or View to a Kill are my favorites (um... The opposite, actually), but Die Another Day was a TERRIBLE movie for Brosnan to go out on. Well... The second half was. The first half was pretty terrific.

Hmmm. Diamonds is probably my least favorite Connery. View to a Kill manages to get under a very low bar to be my least favorite Moore. Because it's an either/or License to Kill is my least favorite Dalton. And DAD was an uneven mess. (TWINE was an uneven mess, but is was a more even uneven mess. And I liked it.)

So: Bonds do not have good swan songs. (But the songs to the swan songs can be terrific.)
