I think James Bond should be laid to rest.

Because of recent events, or because you think it has worn itself out?

Yes, because it HAS worn itself out.
Just compare any of the films produced after 1990 to the original, classic ones... If the originals seem like good jokes, then the new ones aren't jokes at all - just embarrassing stuff put together by producers who don't know when to quit.

With all the respect,

To be EXACT, in my opinion the Bond Era ended with THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS in 1987. It all has been downhill ever since...

My Bond-favorites are DR. NO and LIVE AND LET DIE.

Ralph Fiennes? Hmmm. Not sure. I was hoping for Adrian Paul, who came this close (holds finger and thumb a half-inch apart) to getting the part in GOLDENEYE.

And Sean Connery is rumored to play Bond's dad!! Bond's parents were killed in a climbing accident when he just a kid! Remember the scene in GOLDENEYE between Bond and Alec? "Whereas your parents had the luxury of dying in a climbing accident."

Personally, I love all the Bond films from DR. NO to GOLDENEYE, which I thought nicely capture the feeling of some of the earlier ones. But I thought TND and (especially) TWINE were just two over-bloated summer action movies made just for competition against other over-bloated summer action movies, and thought they lost sense of what the series was supposed to be about: fun.

Ralph Fiennes OR Sean Bean OR Daniel Day Lewis, all would be better than the poor Pierce Brosan. Brong back John Barry to do the score and we just might have another decent Bond film

I thought Brosnan was great in GOLDENEYE, and I liked how the character was give a bit of the Timothy Dalton-like hard edge in TND, but the rest of the film failed to measure up, and TWINE was just awful.

I thought I read somewhere that John Barry said he would return only if he could have full and total creative control over the score, but I guess the producers wouldn't give it to him. I may be wrong, though.

Strange how bad things turned out for the series after Chubby Broccoli passed away.

I think Brosnan is vastly better than Timothy Dalton who nearly destroyed the series IMO. Going in the direction to appease the Fleming purists, culminating in by far the worst Bond movie ever, License To Kill, did more to alienate traditional Bond fans than anything else.

Goldeneye I thought was great (bad score though). TND was not good (okay score though). TWINE I thought was good (so-so score).

AH! I thought Dalton was the best Bond, though Sean Connery is undoubtly the most famous and well-liked. Dalton was the only actor to nail the Bond character as close as he was originally written, and LICENCE TO KILL was a great movie that can be watched and enjoyed by people who don't regularly watch the Bond films. THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS is my personal favorite of the entire series.

Yes, Spacehunter ! My all time favorit Bond after Goldfinger is too The Living Daylights with Dalton. I keep thinking, it still has this ( in good terms ) old fashioned feeling about it. I canĀ“t get tired enough, watching this.

Yeah, I love how it captures the style the earlier films had, after the mostly dismal Roger Moore years (which did have some good entries itself). If you haven't, pick up THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS on DVD. I had no idea it was even out until I accidently came upon it at my local Borders one day.

Dalton to me is totally devoid of charisma and charm as Bond. If anything he is more credible as a potential Bond villain (like Sean Bean in Goldeneye) then he is as Bond himself.

I don't deny that the 60s Bond films are the best in the series, but Roger Moore was exactly the right Bond for the 70s and early 80s when the public wanted more lighthearted escapist entertainment then gritty realism and his staying power is testament enough to his success in the part, whereas the box office failure of License To Kill I think says it all about the wrongheaded approach of appeasing Fleming purists.

To me, "Octopussy" ranks as one of my favorite Bond films and the best Moore film, as it finds a perfect blend of serious story (the tension buildup to Bond defusing the bomb surpasses even the tension in the climax of Goldfinger) and overall sense of fun. Roger should have gone out on this one though, as "View To A Kill" is unquestionably the weakest of his efforts.

Ralph Fiennes?!? All I can say is NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

Frankly, he's got no charisma. Bond is all about attitude, which isn't Fiennes' strong suit.

What has destroyed the series is BAD SCREENPLAYS, and BAD DIRECTION!!! And hell there are no fresh IDEAS where to go with BOND!!! It is the same ol stories. A MADMAN who wants to take over the world and Bond saves the day!!! OVER AND over again.

Oh yeah Bond sleeps with every slut in the world.

I did like Roger Moore, he had fun with the Bond Series, as did Sean Connery. But the rest of the guys except that chap who just did one, are lame brain. It is dull as dirt, and since John Barry got out of the music department of the Bond Series, that has suffered also.

I say bring back Connery and Moore and have Co-Bonds and that would be a funny flic, having those two be a buddy bond flic!

I'm surprised no one's mentioned that waxen humanoid pretending to be an actor, George Lazenby.

I loved Connery and Dalton, but Moore's smarmy asides got old fast. Brosnan is not without charm, but lacking in personal interpretation.

Why do they think James Bond is a skinny, pasty guy? Sean Connery, the best Bond ever, certainly wasn't. I think Adrian Paul (Highlander on television) should play James Bond.

Actually, I'll mention Lazenby to defend his performance in OHMSS which I think is the best individual Bond movie. Lazenby's lack of experience I think helped him in the more demanding role of a more vulnerable Bond. I simply can not picture Connery rising to the challenge of a more vulnerable Bond falling in love, especially after his awful performance in YOLT. And if Connery had been in OHMSS, the producers never would have cast Diana Rigg as Tracy.
