We'll see I guess. I almost overlooked it because of the name/art is nearly identical, but the track-listing mentions a great deal of the library music actually used in the film instead of the little comedy bits they stuffed into the . I'll still follow up on the off chance that it's the real deal.
Looking at my list of comedy CDs, the total track times listed on Discogs (23:25 / 23:43) match up with the comedy album / vocal excerpts.
Too bad. I'd love to have a CD of the stock music used in the movie...
Odds Bodkins, I ne'er noticed it before, but the first eight notes of yon melody are Rozsa's 'Ivanhoe' theme. Could there be some obscure link, given the MGM Thorpe connection with 'Knights of the Round Table', one of the films parodied?
Gadzooks, a plot is afoot.
Actually, note 6 is a little off, being two tones down, therefore less heroic.
All men do verily know that Felix Aylmer was the Merlin who liked to say, 'Niiiiiy'. So is it Yi or Ni?
Sorry it took so long, shipping was taking ages. As expected, this EMI Comedy CD was just a mislabeled dream-killer. While it clearly states "Includes: -a good chunk of mentioned library music-" it is literally just another copy of the "Original Soundtrack of the blah blah blah"
Really dashed some hopes there, how could it be labelled so misleadingly?
My copy of that CD just arrived as well. Very deceptive... I find it hard to believe this was unintentional.
The liner notes have 20 tracks with names like, "Jeunesse [Mower] De Wolfe Publishing," "Honors List [Papworth] De Wolfe Publishing," "Big Country "Honors List [Papworth] De Wolfe Publishing," ... but when you pop the CD in the drive, it's just two tracks -- sides A & B of the original comedy album. It's a mystery what the intent was with this, like an extremely narrowly targeted practical joke.
It's kind of surprising that there has not been a comprehensive score release. Is the entire score (aside from the songs) drawn from the Chappell Music Library? There have been other releases of this music. Is there a rights issue, or is it simply that no one has tried to make it happen?
Apologies if this has been mentioned on another thread (couldn't see anything on my searching) but as this has been a *ahem* holy grail for some, I wanted to flag it. No CD, but De Wolfe seem to have produced a download version.
Thank you SO MUCH for posting the link Murphmanz - Great find and although it’s not a CD, if enough purchase this perhaps De Wolfe might consider a physical release at a later date, or at least offer lossless downloads. Pinching myself we now have an official release, and despite being an MP3 it sounds pretty good through a decent DAC.
