I just saw this quite enjoyable Kurt Wimmer film from 2002. Score was by Klaus Badelt, serviceable and hip, as usual from the german.

One of the themes was very similar to Zimmer's Broken Arrow though, I wonder if the film got temped with BA. Nice electric guitar work, and something else which reminded me of Rabin's The One. And quite a few MI2 elements too.

I can't help thinking that Badelt could have been better with themes though, it all gets to sound a little like wallpaper at times.

So then, not as good as The Recruit, but still.

A pity no official soundtrack was released, I wonder why Varese didn't pick this one up.

I'm pretty familiar with both Equilibrium and Broken Arrow, and I'm not really sure which part(s) you're talking about. Could you be more specific? Just curious!

The score definitely should have been released, it's one of Badelt's best.

A lot of people try to sell me on the movie and on the score. The movie I found to be rather "eh" - even though it has a pretty great cast.

The score was kind of "there", I guess. I don't remember ever really noticing it or humming it.

I LOVED the movie. In fact, I had no expectations whatsoever when I saw it about a year ago, and was very positively surprised by how original and engrossing it was. Highly underrated material. Don't remember anything of the score, though.

I've listened to Equilibrium a couple of times and there is no Broken Arrow in it. This is probably one of Badelt's finest scores, especially the primary themes he uses. However, there is also a lot of eletronic "filler" that gets pretty numbing after a while.

I kind of feel like EQUILIBRIUM was the most hilariously ridiculous movie I'd seen in years. The whole gun-fu thing and dancing around gunfire is surely meant to be very funny, right?

Oh it's nothing when compared to Kurt Wimmer's follow-up film, ULTRAVIOLET. Trust me.

I don't think so. I agree that it has a MATRIX vibe, but the premise of the story and - more importantly - the STYLE of the film was utterly engaging stuff.

I don't have the film or the score, so I can't pinpoint which part sounded like Broken Arrow. There were just this combination of notes that I felt I had heard before...

I'd disagree. The obvious hodge-podge of The Matrix and "generic George Orwell society" wasn't an especially new or interesting premise.

(Thats not to say it can't be viewed as good popcorn fare - but it sounds like you're trying to put more "on it's back" than it deserves.)

That's right. Within its genre, I found it to be very INTELLIGENT material.

I hope you don't mean "science fiction" as its genre, because you're obviously not watching the right movies.

Nah, more like action/thriller hybrid (in a futuristic setting).

I found this movie ridiculous - much though I appreciated some of the genuine performances. Badelt's music was something that nearly always felt out of place.

I thought it was alright - better than i expected, thoguh i didn't expect much. Wouldn't go out of me way to watch it again though. Only watched it because Christian Bale was in it. Bit daft, and there's Sean Bean again, ey up, by eck.

Don;t recall the music.

Nine years later, and still no CD release!

I'm surprised that none of the labels has snapped this one up.

Nine years since I posted that thread.

I have to admit that I haven't thought of this score for a second since then.

So I guess a release wasn't neccessary. :-D
