I'd like to start here a thread concerning all the news from vintage series on DVD.
Find the first one.

Ironside - Here's something that'll make you Shout! Season 1 news!
Posted by Gord Lacey (12/05/2006)

Shout! Factory is set to release the first season of Ironside on April 24, 2007. Unfortunately details are very slim right now; we can tell you the set will sell for a suggested price of $59.95, and that's about all. Hopefully the set will include Ironside, the TV movie which kicked off the series, and the following 28 episodes from season 1; that information isn't available yet, but we'll check with our studio contacts.

The series starred Raymond Burr as the wheelchair-bound detective, Robert Ironside, and ran for 8 seasons (199 episodes) between 1967 and 1975.

Expect more news on this set soon.

So, Stefan, with the DVD release imminent, care to dazzle us with your season one of IRONSIDE thoughts? I haven't seen this show at least since the very early Eighties, at least!

Or maybe "Adam Barclay" from "TNOT Deadly Blossom"?wink

As for Ironside, Jack Lord appears in season one, so no matter what you can't escape him!!! Muhahahahahahaha!

You can escape him in anything after 68 though, since he never acted in anything other than Hawaii Five-O again! smile

Now you know why I don't watch anything from the 1980s...wink (actually, I do)

Are you fans of THE STREETS OF SAN FRANCISCO?

Evidently Fox is going to release the *entire* two season run of "Land Of The Giants" (the last of the Irwin Allen sci-fi shows to make it to DVD) in late July. That's the good news. The bad news is that the whole series boxed set has a retail price of $200, and for a two season show that is really ridiculous, even at discounted prices to about $160 that one might find at a Best Buy.

And in what's likely no coincidence, the retail price for the next half season release of "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" goes back up to $40.

That was close! Hopefully, I am not a fan of LAND OF THE GIANTS: I am saved...
Only THE TIME TUNNEL and VOYAGE.

Of Allen's 4 1960's series, LAND OF THE GIANTS was my least favorite, and for $200.00 it will remain that way. Now that we are getting into the weaker period of VOYAGE, I'll definitely purchase them second hand.

Some "un-verified" news about BANACEK on DVD.

One reviewer at Amazon states that the pilot ("Detour to Nowhere") is not included.
Aw?
I also wonder if there're subtitles or CC?

Ouch if that's true. That would explain though why people thought the two disc specs didn't sound right for squeezing in the entire first season in one set.

Other news, June is a great month for two season 1960s shows finishing their runs on DVD. We have in the space of three weeks the second and final seasons of "F-Troop", "Rat Patrol" and now "The Bill Cosby Show".

I sent an e-mail to TVSHOWSONDVD and I tried to send one to the company that manufacture the BANACEK DVD and guess what?
Their contact page doesn't work: odd.

There is precedent alas for missing pilot movies on Universal detective season 1 sets, as "Rockford Files" did not bother to include it until Season 2, and "Kojak's" lone release of S1 did not include the Marcus-Nelson Murders pilot film.

I got my answer from TVSHOWSONDVD:

[Stefan Miklos]
Hello,

I'd like to know if the company will include the pilot ("Detour to Nowhere") of "Banacek" in the DVD set.
Thanks in advance.

[Gord]
It doesn't look like it frown

I honestly think this is a case of the company that picked up the licensing rights being wholly ignorant of the fact that there was a pilot movie separate from the 16 episodes.

Let's hope they will include the pilot in the season 2 set.

Full info on the release of "Land Of The Giants" in one complete series set.

http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/newsitem.cfm?NewsID=7143

Why oh why though must Fox still insist on this idiotic double sided disc approach? I have had issues with releases of "Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea" and "The Big Valley" and the potential for something wrong in a set this big might scare me off completely because while I can blitz my way through a half season set of Voyage to see its okay with no trouble, I would have to go through all 51 episodes in a hurry just to set my mind at ease about this set. It's something I'd like, but I'd feel better if Fox would get with it and go to single sided discs like everyone else!

Better news is the announcement of a release date for "Isis" starring the beauteous Joanna Cameron!

Agreed! I had a problem with one double sided disc of "The Big Valley".

Amazon still do not offer pre-order for "Gunsmoke"?

Titles that aren't slated for release until mid-July like Gunsmoke Season 1, I don't think are ready to be up on Amazon just yet. I would expect that to change within a few weeks.

Well, the bad news is that "Gunsmoke" Season 1 is now off the Paramount release schedule for now. Let's hope it's just a delay.

And while Digital Bits had the news a while back, TV Shows On DVD makes it official today that "Baa Baa Black Sheep" has been rescued from the "one and done" category of Universal releases in 2005, although this is just for the remainder of Season 1.
