This is marvelous television. A police inspector in rural Britain investigating murders during W.W.II - an unusual theme it would appear. But these are SO well written and performed by an outstanding cast! British or American fans out there? His most famous roles are that of Robert Redford´s buddy in OUT OF AFRICA and of an assistant to Pierce Brosnan´s JAMES BOND. Great actor. I KNEW I'd seen him in something prior to this and I do indeed recall his brief but heartfelt performance as Robert Redford's buddy who has a secret longlasting affair with a Black Woman. And he dearly loves her in spite of everything, leading up to his character's death. Evidentally there are MORE series of this Chief Inspector as well. I love the fact that all this is happening in 1940 while Britain is at War, this makes for very interesting storylines! A friend just sent me another British mini series (1998) called Ultraviolet. It is about a group of elite detectives who know there are really vampires in Britain. He's had a very extensive career and if you look at his imdb listing I'm sure you'll find he was in something you forgot. As I did with MRS. I saw him on stage in Newcastle upon Tyne 20 years ago, playing Mercutio in the RSC's Romeo & Juliet of that season. It was set in a more modern-day Verona, and the famous fight scene was based around a car of the time that was on stage. In one hilarous bit of physical comedy, Kitchen broke off the aerial to stab Tybalt (Hugh Quarshie). Of course, it telescoped against Tybalt's chest, leaving the audience in stitches. It was also a nice little nod at the usual cliche of the telescoping knife so often used on stage and in film. Started watching when PBS ran it on "Mystery" a few years ago, and now have been pouring through it on Netflix and watching the new Cold War iteration/continuation which aired this fall (with new opening credits and a new version of the theme song). P.S. Anyone else notice that Kitchen was in both in the movie "Russia House" and an episode of Foyle's War entitled "The Russian House"?    Posted:   Nov 5, 2013 - 9:31 AM     By:   RoryR   (Member) Very much liked the first season, but I think it only has gone downhill from there, especially once the war was over. Yet, I still watch, on PBS for the record. I'm still trying to understand, though, how in this day anyone can name their daughter "Honeysuckle"?
