I thought by choosing the omnipresent Folgers Classic Roast, I *wasn't* being picky! Bless your heart.

I bought a De'Longhi bean to cup coffee machine last year during lockdown to cheer myself up (an Amazon deal of the day), I also have a pod machine, but apparently the pods are bad news for the earth, so I don't talk about that. I have instant all day (lots of it) & a proper coffee in the evening. A friend of mine is REALLY serious about coffee. He has a very expensive coffee machine (imported from Italy), he cut the price in half when he told his wife how much it cost, & she still hit the roof "how much!", & his coffee grinder cost more that my machine. He buys bottles of water for his coffee (I can't blame him there, his water is awful, it tastes like 50% chlorine) & buys his coffee beans from a place that roasts the beans the day before. Anyway, I was at his place about a month ago & asked for a coffee, it took him 20 minutes, he's really exacting (like a brain surgeon). It tasted lovely, but it didn't taste that much better than the stuff I knock up in a couple of minutes.

For me it's black coffee, medium or light roast. The lighter the roast the more caffeine, and bean flavour. Anything that's grown in volcanic soil region and proper climate is great. Hell I'll even drink instant coffee made from shitty floater and robusto Brazilian beans, with a bit of honey added. I've done a coffee tour in Boquete, Panama back in 2012. The most expensive coffee in the world besides that Catshit bean coffee, is Geisha coffee - which is a variety of Arabica bean that competes in world coffee awards. It's always roasted lightly to get the most flavour out of the beans. I had a cup for around $10USD, absolutely divine. Italians burn the shit out of their beans, and you get expresso. To make it drinkable, it's either in shots with a crap ton of sugar, or watered down Americano - or with a bunch of milk or cream for cappuccino - less caffeine means you keep drinking more. If you like burnt flavour and weak caffeine Italian coffee is for you! Our guide when asked what the best coffee was, gave a great answer. The best coffee is what you prefer to drink. It's as simple as that, everyone has different tastes. There's not one that's better over the other.

My old trusty Bodum burr grinder died a few months ago. For a few weeks I defaulted to my small hand grinder, but I've since replaced the Bodum with a Baratza "Virtuoso" unit using some left over holiday bonus money from work. The Baratza is great and not quite as loud as the Bodum, but still puts my teeth on edge if I run it early in the AM. Still ordering from the Carmelite Monks in Wyoming, but some of the other brands that I mentioned are no longer available it seems. One brand that I'd tried recently went out of business blaming supply problems due to COVID. I've ordered Mocha Java recently from Chris' Coffee and thankfully it is great since I ordered 5 lbs...(on sale). I also order regularly from San Francisco Bay Coffee (I think this may also be available at retail outlets) -- their Moka Java and Fog Chaser blends are really good. I tried their Hazelnut Creme, and it was really nice, but I got tired of it before I went through the 2 lb bag which often happens when I get too much of a flavored blend. Coffee. Still one of the enduring pleasures in my life!

And ESPRESSO, not EXPRESSO! I know you know, but for the less coffee-aware. 100% my bad, and yeah it's little tension inducing - I love espresso mostly in a good Tiramisu!
