Thank you, Michael, this was very useful!

No worriesbig grin. One thing that did strike me as curious is that only eight of the ten vocalists who make up the Ten Tenors are credited in the liner notes. Adrian Phillips and Jeff Teale are not mentioned.

Curious since i recall seeing John Barry conducting a piece in the "making of" video.
Oh well, better if i just wait and judge later when i get the album.

This raises an interesting question: How many tenors is too freakin' many tenors?

The liner notes are a bit confusing when it comes to the conducting credits for individual tracks. I can only assume based on the video that John Barry conducted one or more of the tracks featuring his music (the track he's conducting in the video is 'Places', which is the interpretation of Out of Africa). Nicholas Dodd definitely conducted all the non-Barry tracks though.

Ah, now it's confusing again. And that's the problem. No conductor is specifically credited. We can assume it's Dodd. But why didn't they give JB the conductor's credit when he did it?

Who knows.
I wonder if the UK release is going to be any different from the australian release.
Probably not.
But the concert should be marvellous, no doubt about that.

Apparently, Barry conducted none of the album. Whatever you see on the video was probably just for the video. None of the orchestrations are by Barry either.

Still I hear the three new Barry songs are very good.

Cheers

They're not very good. More like freaking awesome!. 'Just to See Each Other Again' is one of the best songs Barry's ever written as far as I'm concerned. Full of drama and timelessness and tragedy in a way that only Barry knows how to write. Of course credit must also go to lyricist Don Black, who has clearly lost none of his gifts.

I haven't listened to the new songs, but my favorite Barry song is probably How Far is it to the next town. Great, great, great. Too bad Lolita my Love hasn't been released officially.

Rather old news to some around here, but still interesting. The "Here's to the Heroes" album reached gold-sales in Australia a couple of months ago, according to TTT's website:

I've been listening to this CD again recently, after some years not playing it. I remember not being too enamoured with it on release but in retrospect it's rather good. The new Barry/Black songs are nice to hear again. I also like the version of Il Gladiatore, though Pavarotti's is the best. Has anyone else listened to this CD recently or any more opinions?

I like the new songs or rather the songs written for other projects and not used for various reasons. Orchestrations are bit over the top for my taste, I prefer something a little more laid back. Good version of You Only Live Twice. Barry's final album project is OK but doesn't really compare to Beyondness or Eternal Echoes but by this point John was all but retired and not in great health.
