Ray Faiola's recent post which noted the resemblance of Andy Garcia to Miklos Rozsa got me thinking, how might you cast... "Film Music: The Motion Picture" I say: William Hurt as Jerry Goldsmith Patrick Stewart as John Williams Michael Gambon as Bernard Herrmann Gerard Depardieu as Georges Delerue Christopher Plummer as Maurice Jarre Frank Langella as Bill Conti Carrot Top as Danny Elfman Art Malik as Trevor Jones Miranda Richardson as Anne Dudley George Takei as Toru Takemitsu Al Pacino as John Corigliano Ian McKellen as Leonard Bernstein Patrick Doyle as Patrick Doyle Can't think of who to play Basil Poledoruis, John Barry, Ennio Morricone, Lalo Schifrin, James Horner, etc. Any ideas? Frank Langella as Bill Conti is right on, but for John Williams I would say Richard Attenborough or David Ogden Stiers. Yeah, David Ogden Stiers is a good choice -- especially as Stiers is himself a conductor. Paul

Of the one's whose temperament would probably be interesting enough to make a film of... John Malkovitch as BERNARD HERRMANN Martin Clunes or Michael Caine as JOHN BARRY - though personally I got for Clunes... who does that officious cranky vulnerable guy role so well... Klaus Maria Brandeier as MIKLOS ROZSA Javier Bardem as ENNIO MORRICONE - yeah, I know Bardem's Spanish... I cast for screen presence and personality, not for likeness!

Lloyd Bridges as Giovanni Trapatoni I can see that.

There's a striking resemblance between the elder Bernard Herrmann and Sean Penn with a bit of weight put on. To see what I mean check out this thread: http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.asp?threadID=34016&forumID=7 As far as personality, Penn has been known to throw things far worse than musical instruments at people, so the personality is certainly simiilar.

As far as personality, Penn has been known to throw things far worse than musical instruments at people, so the personality is certainly simiilar. But is he sarcastic enough?

But is he sarcastic enough? Penn could wipe the floor with most people when it comes to sarcasm. He doesn't suffer fool's gladly. Besides, sarcasm is words on a page, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch for him.
