SKYJACK. KIDNAP. A time-bomb of suspense has started ticking… Two nations are being held for ransom and Sean Connery is the agent who takes on… The Terrorists. Prometheus Records presents the motion picture soundtrack to RANSOM, also known as THE TERRORISTS, the 1975 thriller directed by Casper Wrede, starring Sean Connery and Ian McShane, featuring music composed and conducted by the great Jerry Goldsmith, performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Sean Connery plays Colonel Nils Tahlvik, Head Of National Security in a Scandinavian country where a British airplane has been hijacked by terrorists led by Ian McShane (DEADWOOD) and forced to land at the airport. Simultaneously, at the residence of the British ambassador, hostages are taken by another group of terrorists and they have ransom demands. Is there a connection? Tahlvik, at odds with his superiors, must come up with a way to rescue the hostages without causing any fatalities.

Released once before on compact disc in 1991 with less than stellar sound, Prometheus Records is pleased to present RANSOM again, newly remastered, with much improved sound quality.

No surprise here (as it is with VICTORY), but:

GREAT release, and as many pointed out, it's one of Goldsmth's rather "forgtten" scores, so it could be a real discovery for many people. And it's a very energetic score, with one extremely memorable theme.

Thanks to Prometheus!

Henrik

At least, the new CD features four more tracks than there were on the old RANSOM/CHAIRMAN pairing from Silva.

Same content as the LP (except for a end title reprise). So, now that lovely lounge cue (source cue?) is also included.

I believe in the liner notes of the Silva release they wrote that they left of a few tracks from the LP because they were simply repeats of other tracks with a new title given to them.

Does it still have the mix of stereo and mono cuts that the original album had?

The original album had a cetain raspy, abrasive quality that puzzled me because the recording's engineer, Eric Tomlinson, usually did such sterling work. Perhaps a bad LP mastering job?

Great!
I don't know this one, but any Goldmsith release is good news, and I've read much praise of "Ransom".

And it's not a limited release!

Thanks, Prometheus!

Is this another limited edition cd, how many copies before it goes out?

This is a standard Prometheus release, not a limited edition, so it should be around for a while.

Well, if there aren't any extra tracks that's a real shame. The old album as it stood was fine, but two or three stella cues (real hammered Stravinsky stuff) were missing. Looks like they remain so.

Is this then simply a re-release of the Silva tracks put through Cool Edit or whatever? Come on. Hire a private dick and find the originals. Honestly, it would be worth it because this is a very good score. It's great in the movie, but on album those missing tracks tend to slightly cripple the experience.

Heath, did you take even TWO seconds to look at the track listing of this release? Did you take even another second to read a few posts above where someone mentioned that there were four more tracks not on the Silva release? No, of course not. Perhaps we need to hire a private dick to find Heath's bifocals.

The old LP-album had, I think, two tracks which were simple repeats of other tracks. And two tracks seem to be source music, IIRC. So there is not much new score music, if any. Haven't played my LP in years. IMHO it's one of Goldsmith's most boring scores. wink

No need to be quite so hostile, Mike.

I think you'll find that the content of the new CD is identical to the original LP track list. Silva used these LP cues but discarded some because they were simply re-titled repeat tracks heard ealier on the album.

In fact someone here already pointed this out. Seems like you missed it.

Also, I know exactly where my glasses are; resting on the bridge of my nose.

Next.

Indeed, the level of hostility here seems a bit unwarranted. As an aside, there's nothing wrong with wanting more, but let's make sure ALL the information is present before ASSumptions are made. Thanks.

I need to wait for proper info and reviews of sound quality on this one. I love any new Goldsmith release but, as with THE CHAIRMAN, this disc must be properly inspected and discussed by FORD THAXTON and many other knowledgable individuals before I invest in it.

So please, I yearn for some MORE info on this release.

If the recording source material and sound engineering are superior to the Silva CD (and that shouldn't be too difficult to do), a welcome release. I always thought the artwork and overall look of that old CD was pretty jicky, anyway. Not a top tier Goldsmith score, but "Sky Chase" is a pretty damned good cue.

I am tired of all the "remastered" thing. I wait till someone heards it and comments the sound quality.
