SKYJACK. KIDNAP. A time-bomb of suspense has started ticking… Two nations are being held for ransom and Sean Connery is the agent who takes on… The Terrorists. Prometheus Records presents the motion picture soundtrack to RANSOM, also known as THE TERRORISTS, the 1975 thriller directed by Casper Wrede, starring Sean Connery and Ian McShane, featuring music composed and conducted by the great Jerry Goldsmith, performed by the National Philharmonic Orchestra. Sean Connery plays Colonel Nils Tahlvik, Head Of National Security in a Scandinavian country where a British airplane has been hijacked by terrorists led by Ian McShane (DEADWOOD) and forced to land at the airport. Simultaneously, at the residence of the British ambassador, hostages are taken by another group of terrorists and they have ransom demands. Is there a connection? Tahlvik, at odds with his superiors, must come up with a way to rescue the hostages without causing any fatalities.
Released once before on compact disc in 1991 with less than stellar sound, Prometheus Records is pleased to present RANSOM again, newly remastered, with much improved sound quality.

No surprise here (as it is with VICTORY), but:
GREAT release, and as many pointed out, it's one of Goldsmth's rather "forgtten" scores, so it could be a real discovery for many people. And it's a very energetic score, with one extremely memorable theme.

At least, the new CD features four more tracks than there were on the old RANSOM/CHAIRMAN pairing from Silva.

Same content as the LP (except for a end title reprise). So, now that lovely lounge cue (source cue?) is also included.
I believe in the liner notes of the Silva release they wrote that they left of a few tracks from the LP because they were simply repeats of other tracks with a new title given to them.

Does it still have the mix of stereo and mono cuts that the original album had?
The original album had a cetain raspy, abrasive quality that puzzled me because the recording's engineer, Eric Tomlinson, usually did such sterling work. Perhaps a bad LP mastering job?

This is a standard Prometheus release, not a limited edition, so it should be around for a while.

If the recording source material and sound engineering are superior to the Silva CD (and that shouldn't be too difficult to do), a welcome release. I always thought the artwork and overall look of that old CD was pretty jicky, anyway. Not a top tier Goldsmith score, but "Sky Chase" is a pretty damned good cue.
