The problem is, that I thought of buying the "Agony and the ecstasy" rerecording for a long time and luckily didn't, now I have the Deluxe Edition. The same may happen with Zapata if it's not complete yet.

'tis one of lifes dilemas for the soundtrack fan.I,like many others, have been in the same place many times.I bought my copy of zapata when it first came out,so if a deluxe ed does surface,at least I can say'I've had mine a while-then break down crying again!

Life is for the living and the time is always now. What if they DO put out another CD of ZAPATA somewhere down the road? Why deny yourself this superb score in the meantime, when Jerry and Varese went to all the trouble to make it available to you? Besides, you might get run over by a streetcar and not be around to get that other CD by the time they finally get around to offering it, if ever. God forbid, but you see what I mean?

I was told that the original tracks are not usable. If that helps.

I will say, this is one of my favorite scores, but I don't love the Goldsmith/Varese rerecording (and I'm not one who generally carps a lot about rerecordings not being exactly faithful to the originals). Either the performance, the acoustics, or both lack the sharpness that this score requires. Still, I wouldn't hold your breath for a longer release of the original tracks. And if it did happen, I would not have an ounce of regret buying this score all over again.

No-one in this thread has yet referred to the
recording that was done by Elmer Bernstein for
his FMC label. Interestingly enough, Alex North
accompanied Elmer when he made the record in
London.
The trouble is that that the FMC record is impossible to listen to because of the amount of
surface noise on the disc - terrible!

I have often thought of it as a good "who's the
odd-one-out" question : Alex North, Alfred Newman, Elmer Bernstein or Jerry Goldsmith. The
answer is Alex North, because the other three
conducted the score, whereas AN didn't!

A great recording, I think (and I don't feel that all of the FMCs were successful, though you certainly have to admire them). I would be very happy if it came out on CD. But then, which of us wouldn't?

(Wouldn't mind having North's "Death of a Salesman," which was on the flipside, either.)

Only one thread about this superb score in the whole archive.

A great Varese rerecording.

Well, it's this thread. So if he referenced it he'd get stuck in an endless, self-referencing loop! Be careful, Thor.

Well, there was some discussion about the score in this long thread:

http://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.asp?threadID=13314&forumID=1

But you're right...it hasn't had a thread of its own thus far. So great work, guys!

I don't have this soundtrack myself, by the way.

It's still worth getting the Goldsmith recording even if you already got the Varese Deluxe edition. Vice versa, too, of course.

Yes; Goldsmith's Zapata has impressed me enough to think it's worth getting his Agony & Ecstasy, even though the DE is perfect - even down to the period source cues by Alexander Courage.

I was afraid Thor woukd make one of his posts, so I did careful research.

If I had loooots of money I would by all North soundtracks...

Does Zapata not being listed at Vareses website mean it's out of print? Most stores don't seem to carry it anymore though Colosseum still has it in its catalogue.

A shame.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can get it with The 13th Letter. Is there anything wrong with this presentation guys?

Because if it suddenly goes, I think I'll cry.

Well, this is the Varese Club release with if I am correct the original score recording conducted by Alfred Newman btw which is still available.

The Goldsmith rerecording though seems to be oop.

I only have the rerecording and think that this rekease would have benefited from a more close mike recording.

Can anyone say how the Varese Club CD sounds? I might purchase it if the sound is good.

OOP my ass..

It's available on ITUNES for download right now which means it's not OUT OF PRINT, the CD is, but the recording isn't.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/viva-zapata!-original-motion/id62948963

Also available is the Elmer Bernstein conducted recording coupled with DEATH OF A SALESMAN
https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/viva-zapata!-death-salesman/id491622856

Both are really good recordings

And if you are anal and only what a PRESSED CD, well go here

The Goldsmith recording is available used for as low as $11.44 at AMAZON
http://www.amazon.com/Viva-Zapata-Alex-North/dp/B000025UGK/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1419657303&sr=1-1&keywords=viva+zapata

VARESE still has stock of the original soundtrack recording and if I read the site correctly the current price is $14.99
https://sellercentral.amazon.com/gp/orders-v2/details/ref=ag_orddet_cont_myo?ie=UTF8&orderID=112-4033668-2036251

All of these titles are available with AUDIO SAMPLES, so if you want to get an idea of what they sound like, that's really easy to do.

I don't know how much easier someone can make it to find these.
