"...this forum's historical posts is repeatedly being spoilt once you become the focus of each topic"
-------------------------------------
Hmmm, surely there's no (esoteric) ulterior motive going on here, is there??!!

I know you probably do this tongue in cheek at times, but it really does come across as trolling.

For you, it may be trolling. For me it is a matter of 'survival' (in a messageboard sense), lest I go insane. I've been here so long and posted on so many topics, that I can easily refer to previous discussions instead of copy/pasting said things in the new thread. It's usually meant as a heads-up, really -- as in "go here to read previous discussion" or "go here to read what I think about this topic". Easier to link than control-c/control-v.

Hmmm, why am I visualising Rain Man in my mind...

Ha, ha....I take that as a compliment, even if none was intended.

Anyway!
Back ON Topic.
Has everyone sent their e-mail to Varese telling them how great this score is and how much they NEED a more complete and remastered edition of John Williams' greatest Western score ever?

But how do we know it's his greatest if The Plainsman and The Rare Breed have never been released to be heard on their own as music? smile

Aye Josh, at the time, those 30 minute CD's were the best we could ever dream of.
While the big labels could throw out some 60-70 minute score presentations, Varese and the composer had to distill the score to that short programme (although I happen to think SOME of those 30 min releases were/are perfect as they are).
Now, years later, with the rules changed, they have so many scores that could be expanded upon but their production line is a bit choked somewhat.
It was obviously good business sense back then to negotiate the deal the way they did.
They now sit on some prime real estate and can make some cash as and when they choose.
I guess our only virtue is patience!

Zippy questioning their “sincerity” came across to me as… well… obnoxious, given the history of Varèse. They are a very active label with a full release schedule of contemporary films as well as their periodic Club and Encore releases. They may not be as prolific with the latter as people might want, which might be disappointing, but they are definitely committed to the art and craft of film scoring.

Definitely. They are releasing a lot of current stuff that would never see the light of day, like film scores by Diego Navarro or higher profile scores like JUPITER ASCENDING.
I wonder how all the scores of all the different labels sell these days... there's only so much of it one can buy and listen to. I am glad it's out there, though. Film music has never been available in such unlimited plentiful supply as it has been these years. I have few grails left, as pretty much all of my real grails (as opposed to "nice to have") have been released.

There is a significant amount of The Rare Breed available from Silva, recorded by CoPPO! smile

I haven't listened to my tape of The Plainsman in quite some time, but I remember liking parts of it.
It shares it's style with Rare Breed at times, but The Cowboys is on a whole 'nother level.
The difference between the sound and style of The Plainsman and Rare Breed compared to The Cowboys is quite amazing.
The mid 60's stuff sounds like someone 'Learning The Ropes' wink while the mastery on show in The Cowboys sounds like someone who's about to be zapped by The Force!
