I don't know about "negative" comments necessarily ... etc.

Put this down to my age! My apologies to those who do think this is a great JG score. I've collected approx. 150 (or parts of) JG scores but Rudy was not one I ever sought and I'm convinced that I've seen comments about it being tedious et al ... perhaps it was just one comment I read in some distant thread ...

Mitch, I was agreeing with you man!

Rudy is one of my favorite Goldsmith scores. It works brilliantly in the film and as a standalone listening experience. The music is so full of joy. I hope it gets a complete, remastered release.

Sorry, Mike, I simply used your text as a summary of the replies I'd received above ... smile

I love this score too, and I only recall seeing positive comments from others about it.

I don`t know. I mean I am probably one of the biggest Goldsmith fans on the planet but RUDY is definetely too syrupy for me.
OK, ANGIE is even "sweeter". But just compare RUDY to say A PATCH OF BLUE. That was an intimate score as well. But it had such a subdued and sophisticated quality to it that IMHO RUDY lacks. I am sorry but RUDY just like ANGIE with their intrusive "sweetnes" exactly represent the oversimplified style that Goldsmith prefered after TOTAL RECALL. But like I said it`s just my opinion: to each his own.

No, counterpoint. It's NOT just your opinion. It's mine too, and I've said as much in previous threads.

I've been sickeningly positive recently about BROKEN ARROW (not the Hans one), Lalo Schifrin's pants, and Lezzie's stuff, so allow me please to state for the record, once more, that we seem to be in a tiny minority here in our lack of appreciation for RUDY. The other two that come to mind, which are almost universally revered here are THE HOLLOW MAN and BASIC INSTINCT. And Kev agrees (sorry to bring you into it matey!)

But that's what makes everything interesting!

I adore Goldsmith's score for Rudy although I have to admit it does heavily resemble an orchestral version of Hoosiers.

When Sean Astin attended the Scandinavian Sci-Fi, Game and Film Convention some years ago most people got him to sign Lord of the Rings related things, not me. He signed my copy of Jerry Goldsmith`s Rudy. When he did sign it he said something like this: "Whenever I was in a scene where Jerry`s music was heard, it made me look better". He continued his praise of Jerry`s music and said that he thought Rudy should have been nominated for an Academy Award.

Apparently Sean Astin is/was a Jerry Goldsmith fan.

I think I heard of a Story about the Process of the NON Nomination of Rudy. TriStar Pictures forgot?? To place an ad campaign on behave of Jerry Goldsmith. That is what I heard years ago. OR Simple..Since Only Composers Nominate Composers in the Music Branch at the Academy ...Jerry's name was not in the Top 5.

Insanely monotonous score. Also insanely enjoyable.
