After watching "50 First Dates" I`ve once again realized that T. Castellucci is one of the most creative filmcomposers working in Hollywood today. That score is the most enjoyable "vacation score" since Nicholas Pike`s "Captain Ron" and David Newman`s "My Father The Hero". Some tracks seem to have been temp tracked with Zimmer`s "True Romance" since they sound a bit similar. But they still offer new aspects, so they are definetely no copies. The score is a very entertaining mix of "vacation flavored" pop tunes and very melodic symphonic elements that have a certain "J.N. Howard" touch. While watching "50 First Dates" and listening to Castellucci`s score, I`ve just remembered his excellent score to "The Animal" with all those great "jungle like" percussion tracks. "The Animal" is still one of my favorite scores of the last couple of years. It`s too bad that none of Teddy Castellucci`s scores have ever been released. I mean he composed plenty of scores that definetely deserve a release (for example "Big Daddy", "Little Nicky", "Anger Management" or "Mr. Deeds"). But due to the nature of the films he tends to score (mostly lightweight comedies) his scores simply won`t get released. Too bad.

Although I wouldn't say that Castellucci is "one of the most creative film composers" - his music is extremely well crafted and quite exciting but IMO not that original - I agree with you when it comes to the fact that he is a very overlooked composer. A few of his scores, particularly "Little Nicky", are very enjoyable on CD. I wrote a little about Castellucci in my first "Hidden Treasures" column at http://www.musicfromthemovies.com/feature.asp?ID=12. mikael Interesting article, thanks Mikael. Theodore Shapiro is another very interesting composer who is not exactly well represented on CD. BTW, compared to people like Graeme Revell or Trevor Rabin, I definetely would call Teddy Castellucci an extremely creative filmcomposer.

Just watched "The Animal" and "Little Nicky" again. Brillant scores. Especially "The Animal" always blows me away. The percussion parts are amazing and the whole thing is so powerful. Besides, Castellucci has a wonderful sense for melody and always comes up with beautiful themes. In my opinion, next to David Newman, Teddy Castellucci is NUMERO UNO when it comes to scoring comedies (My favorite score genre btw).
