Anyone get to listen to the recent Decca reissue of the FIVE PENNIES, 1959, soundtrack featuring Danny Kaye & Louis Armstong? Is this a straight reissue of the original LP or are there any extras? Was this a studio re-record or taken from the actual soundtrack recordings? I believe the UK release of this album was quiet elaborate, gatefold jacket with booklet. Was the US LP similar? Thanks Joe Looking at the listing on the website, the track listing appears to be the same as the original album, which I still have. "The Five Pennies" was one of the first Stereo albums that my Mum & Dad bought, and it used to get played a lot, to demonstrate the new process. It certainly did have an elaborate, full-color booklet cover, very similar to the original "South Pacific" album.

the cd is mono? Manderley, I did NOT produce the laserdisc - Paramount did this on their own. THey lifted the stereo music from an actual lp. Paramount did not keep the raw music for this film. Parmaount and Warners both did the same odd thing. Whle they genreally kept the music scoring sessions if it was orchestrral, they did NOT keep the vocals. I put in requests to Paramount to pull the sessions for White Christmas, Half a Sixpnce, Funny face,,and Lila Abner so these titles could me mixed for stereo laser. They didn't have them. thankfully, later, the complete stereo mixed track of Half a sixpence was found. Can't believe this title finally gets released on dvd in just a few weeks. Warners is very sad, because they did so many fun musicals with Doris Day and the sessions are just not there.

Well, here's a review of the new Blue Moon CD from an Amazon customer: 5.0 out of 5 stars FINALLY IN STEREO!!!!, March 24, 2014 By P. Wolske This review is from: Original Soundtrack from The Five Pennies and The Gene Krupa Story (Audio CD) I've had the Dot stereo LP of The Five Pennies since 1959, so I was elated when the Decca CD came out several years ago. But, alas, it was in MONO! This Blue Moon (a quality company in Spain) release is in the terrific stereo of the Dot release. This CD also has the great soundtrack of The Gene Krupa Story (on CD at last, and also in stereo). Also included is a 16 page booklet with lots of pictures and details. If you have the mono CD, use it as a coaster, and get this to have the music come alive in great stereo.

Blue Moon is a Euro CD company which uses the 50 year copyright rule to its best advantage.

It's a subsidiary label to Fresh Sounds, who've released a lot of really incredible-sounding stuff - I would not jump to the LP conclusion - because some of their releases are amazing and do not come from LP.
