No drinking today, I think. I had my own "private party" with me and myself yesterday after a rather emotional funeral on Friday. So if I am to function relatively normal tomorrow, I have to jump off the wagon. But a drink like the one you describe sounds great, Jim -- would suit this unusual heat here in Oslo.

My best to you at what is obviously a tough time. My wife is having surgery this Wednesday but we're being as festive as we can this Independence Day weekend.
The drink is a strong one, but also bracing, tart, and crisp. Hemingway knew what he was doing.
With my wife doing well after surgery, I am in the mood to quietly celebrate her return and recovery with a Hemingway Daiquiri aka Papa Doble, as mentioned previously in this thread most fine. It's hot as Hades here in South Florida and this potent, ice-cold drink is great for that. Cheers to what's left of of our health.
In a few hours, I'm off to a local music festival here in my hometown in the south of Norway. The headliner tonight is Röyksopp, the Norwegian electronica duo which should be familiar to at least some of you. Should drink plenty of beers in advance, though, because the booze is always insanely expensive at this places (Norway is expensive to begin with, but when you add festival monopoly on top of that, it's insanity).
No way! I've had a drunken evening home alone tonight! I had some potential things happening, but none of them came to fruition. So I stayed home and downed a series of specialty beers all by myself. Quity tipsy now.
I was going to update this thread tomorrow, as I have TWO Christmas parties lined up -- one tomorrow and one on Saturday. No drinking tonight, though. I already have a cold, and have to save the body for tomorrow.
(sorry, I just realized you adressed Americans regarding Thanksgiving -- I fail to qualify in both regards!).
I'm not drinking anything today, but I am watching Rock Hudson down several cups of bourbon-flavored eggnog in GIANT. I might have to concoct some of that myself a month from now at Christmastime.

Thanks for the inspiration! I have some Maker's Mark bourbon around and will put some of it to good use come Christmas. I also have a recipe for some Caribbean (Haitian in this case) egg nog that requires dark rum.
Is it not a bit early for Christmas parties, even in Norway? In November?!
Nope, it's starting now. It's not regular Christmas parties, though. It's a tradition we have over here called 'julebord' (literally translated as 'Christmas tables'). I'm not sure if they exist anywhere else in the world:
I love weekends! Even if I have no plans, I still have carte blanche to get drunk all on my own. Had a moderate 6 beers alone yesterday; today I've downed a few strong Christmas beers and other beers and will be heading to a friend's birthday party in an hour.
A colleague of mine from work gave me a bottle of Lebanese Arak, an Anise-flavored alcohol one mixes with water. It's quite delicious and with the Fall college (work) semester wrapping up soon, I'm drinking some this weekend.
