Cheers moontrekker! I've been listening to UNCLE 1 and, as I said, it's all great, but I've got to admit that it's Gerald Fried's album. Humble respect to the other maestros of course, but Gerald has had me laughing my as* off for a day now... for all the right reasons. He scores with such funky, hip humour doesn't he? There's a Stravinskian sensibility to some of those groovy bass guitar riffs. Well I can hear it anyway. I think I'll have to order up Vol 2 and then do my own personal boil-down single CD: "UNCLE Gets Fried". I know it's pronounced "freed" but, hey, it works both ways! Personally, I think the second volume is even better than the first. I have to say I love the minimalist Goldsmith scores - brass, percussion and (especially)the low piano....as well as Morton Steven's similarly styled scores. Scharf and Drasnin's scores are enjoyable but maybe not so memorable. For me though, Richard Shores and Gerald Fried make the albums with a lot of catchy, energetic and infectious rhythms. I love Shores' score to THE SEVEN WONDERS OF THE WORLD AFFAIR( better known here in the UK as HOW TO STEAL THE WORLD) and I guess thats why - along with Fried's bouncy music - volume 2 is my favourite.

You may already know this, but as you like Richard Shores you should check out Gil Evans' arrangements for Miles Davis on the Porgy And Bess album (1957 I think). You will hear some startling stylistic antecedents. I like Shores too, although mostly for his Wild Wild West scores. Now that would be another great CD release. Cheers Heath Thanks Heath! I shall certainly do as you suggest. I'd like to see more of Shore's music on CD whatever the context. I love his arrangements of brass and percussion and the general rhythmic drive of his music. That may be because I have a fondness for upbeat jazz-based scores....but I like his music nonetheless.

P.S. I see you're a Barry Gray man. Good on you. My UFO CD's in the post apparently. Looking forward to it. Damn it, I've got to stop being so retro! Its an excellent album - great sound quality.Much of the first disc consists of variations of the theme...the second disc contains some fine orchestral scoring indeed. I think you'll enjoy it.....

I borrowed the LOONEY TUNES movie from the library, but found it not-fun-to-watch. Maybe I'll borrow it again, and bring the computer into the kitchen. Then, I'll put on the French language track and ignore the screen. I can ignore the French easily, hear the score while I'm making cornbread or something, and not have to try to enjoy the film.
