Last night we watched Melville's "Le Doulos" (1963). The jazzy score was by Paul Misraki. I see that he scored some other Melville films, including "Alphaville," which I have not seen in ages.

Looks like he had a long career based on imdb.

I'll tell ya, Onya ... but it will take too much time and text to do this all at once in one day.

First, Alphaville is a film directed by Jean-Luc Godard. 5 cues from Alphaville appeared within a series of volumes of discs on Misraki film music. [these CDs are now 20 years old! - they were issued in 1998]

Surprise me, Onya, and tell me you've never owned the Decca LP on "and God created woman":

... and here's another thing I'll tell ya:

Paul Misraki had the enviable opportunities to write music for a variety of films directed by the 'who's who' of mid-20th century European cinema.
Becker, Buñuel, Chabrol, Clouzot, Godard, Melville, Renoir, Vadim & Welles!

Which other composers have had these directors on their résumés?

Musically, though, Misraki is firmly in the French Romantic tradition. The majority of his film music oeuvre is pre-Nouvelle Vague conservatism. Misraki is very much in the 'Golden Age' mo(u)ld.

My understanding is that Michel Legrand has great affection for Paul Misraki, though.

Misraki scored and wrote two songs for ATOLL K, the last feature starring Laurel & Hardy.

Thanks all! Yes, I do have that Bardot LP, but the name didn't resonate.

This kind of thread is why a big reason why I keep visiting here -thanks, for bringing it up. Had no idea that things like Le Doulos were available on Amazon Prime - I'm gonna give that a watch soon. And it looks like quite a lot of Misraki's music - including the five tracks Zardoz mentions above from Alphaville - are on Spotify. Some nice counter-holiday listening.

There's a new digi-pak on some vintage Misraki recordings.

Doesn't seem to be anything here that wasn't previously available, but it's nice to have them back in current circulation.
