I'm currently only familiar with the two scores Jerry Goldsmith wrote for this classic series (many episodes of the show including these two can be found for streaming various places online like YouTube). That said, looking over the IMDb composer credits for this show is pretty tantalizing. Certain very big names like Williams/Moross/Gold/Schifrin, and several other composers who may be less remembered but who were masters in their day (Roy Webb most of all, for what I'm personally excited by...so much of his music for RKO is sadly lost, but these 7 western scores might survive!): Sidney Fine ... (25 episodes, 1960-1964) Richard Shores ... (12 episodes, 1960-1963) Stanley Wilson ... (12 episodes, 1960-1961) Cyril J. Mockridge ... (11 episodes, 1959-1963) David Buttolph ... (9 episodes, 1959-1961) Nathan Scott ... (9 episodes, 1960-1964) Morton Stevens ... (8 episodes, 1962-1964) Lyn Murray ... (7 episodes, 1958-1965) Roy Webb ... (7 episodes, 1958-1960) John Williams ... (6 episodes, 1958-1964) Heinz Roemheld ... (5 episodes, 1958-1960) Jerome Moross ... (5 episodes, 1959-1960) Jack Hayes ... (4 episodes, 1959-1964) Leo Shuken ... (4 episodes, 1959-1964) Conrad Salinger ... (4 episodes, 1959-1962) Ernest Gold ... (4 episodes, 1959-1960) Albert Woodbury ... (4 episodes, 1959-1960) Van Cleave ... (3 episodes, 1960-1964) Hans J. Salter ... (3 episodes, 1963-1964) Laurindo Almeida ... (2 episodes, 1958-1960) Jeff Alexander ... (2 episodes, 1959-1960) Alexander Courage ... (2 episodes, 1959-1960) Henri Rene ... (2 episodes, 1960) Jerry Goldsmith ... (2 episodes, 1961-1962) David Raksin ... (1 episode, 1958) Tak Shinda ... (1 episode, 1958) Frank Skinner ... (1 episode, 1958) Daniele Amfitheatrof ... (1 episode, 1959) Frank De Vol ... (1 episode, 1959) Gerald Fried ... (1 episode, 1959) Johnny Green ... (1 episode, 1959) Albert Sendrey ... (1 episode, 1959) Herman Stein ... (1 episode, 1959) Leigh Harline ... (1 episode, 1960) William Lava ... (1 episode, 1962) Axel Stordahl ... (1 episode, 1962) Jack Marshall ... (1 episode, 1963) Arthur Morton ... (1 episode, 1963) Lalo Schifrin ... (1 episode, 1964) Yeah...so many talented composers in that list (and some folks who are better known as orchestrators). I salivate at the thought of hearing all these western scores of theirs! The only three names that were completely unfamiliar to me were Axel Stordahl, Tak Shinda, and Henri Rene. Is anyone familiar with them or their music? In any case, I wonder if LLL might consider a 6-CD box set of scores from this series a la Mission: Impossible. Or at the very least, a 4-CD box set of scores along the lines of the fine set they produced for Wild Wild West. I think the series is currently owned by Universal, so it seems like it could be part of the new dive into the Universal TV archives... Yavar

Stanley Wilson, who scored 12 episodes of the show, also conducted an album of highlights by various composers who worked on it. Apparently this LP re-recording has also never made it to CD, despite having famous composers like John Williams on it: http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=54318&forumID=1&archive=0 I suppose many would want this LP program to be released on CD as well, if possible... That's the beauty of most westerns from the 1960's to the 1980's -- you can turn on random episodes and think: Hey, I really like that score!

IF I have time next year, this is a strong contender for a thread on the scores, like I have done for other shows. That is unless a label is already working on it, at which point I don't want to waste my time and consider a series not as likely to get released.
