I also did hear some Trevor Jones' CLIFFHANGER stuff immediately.
But it doesn't bother me that much.

PRIMEVALS remains a great old fashioned score.
I wish there were more like this these days.

Richard Band still delivers. No question.

I still dream of a full orchestral new-recording of THE RESURRECTED, my favorite score from him. I would pay big bucks for this.

Forgot to come back here to say that the signed CD I ordered from Richard Band's site came pretty quickly. Have had it for several days now. Lovely liner notes/images!

Umbrella outta Australia got dis!

An old mate of mine I, unfortunately lost touch with due my antisocial stupidity (Hi D.S., hope you're well amigo!), hipped me to this project years ago. I canna Express my joy David Allen's dream project finally is scored, proper, and finding eyeballs.

I preordered the BluRay set from Umbrella as soon as I received their "Coming Soon" email. And now I've ordered Mr. Band's CD. I remember reading about this project over 40 years ago in "Cinefantastique". Just amazing!

"Goblinscore" - I do remember chatting about this project with you many moons ago. I am well and I hope you are too! That Umbrella Entertainment release looks wonderful - to my knowledge this is the first officially announced home video release of the film. Full Moon will apparently be doing their own but it hasn't been announced yet.

Randall D. Larson recently interviewed Richard Band which, among other things, addresses the question I've had for a while now regarding what orchestra performed this.

https://0f309a5.rcomhost.com/Pages/larsons_soundtrax-Special_04_01_2024.html

The entire interview is great to read, but these are some great quotes about the actual recording:

"It was evident from the beginning that it had to have an epic quality to it. The biggest impediment from the outside was getting a huge, epic-quality sound with almost no budget! There’s the rub. As usual, one would think that with a film like this, you would have to have at least a $300 or 400 thousand dollar budget to record it with a huge orchestra and all that, and that was not even in the near ballpark, so I had very little money to work with, but I still needed, somehow, to create that big sound. It took a lot of work, and I managed to pull off some sessions in Bratislava, Slovakia, where I did get a huge string section put together on a big stage. I figured to get that sonic quality and that big feel, you couldn’t do it with ten strings in a small studio and overdub it ten times! That’s not the way it would work. I had to have that air of a big stage. So, Bratislava worked out. I cut every corner possible to make it happen.

I didn’t even travel there; I did it remotely. I was in my studio here while it was being recorded over there, and I’m up at 2 in the morning here, starting our sessions! I had to send pre-records to Bratislava and click tracks to do that and everything. I did all the orchestrations here and had a couple of extra orchestrators in Greece. So I had three countries going at once – people in Greece, people in Bratislava, and me here, all coordinated and happening simultaneously. It was quite a little procedure to put it together. And it had to all work like clockwork because there was no money to spare on this thing. So that was the single most challenging part of getting this done – but thankfully, it was prepared right, and it all came off without a hitch!"

And also:

"...it really was a combination of the live stuff that I managed to pull off in Bratislava, as well as the tremendous amount of music recorded here, and that took a lot of time. I performed almost everything myself, including a good part of the rest of the orchestra, and that took a lot of time and effort! The other big challenge was pulling this off to sound like a real orchestra. Many people can’t tell that this was a kind of half-and-half situation. But everything that wasn’t from a real live orchestra, I wrote and performed myself right here in the studio."

So as it turns out, it was an assembled orchestra in Bratislava, Slovakia and Band oversaw the sessions remotely. Then he performed the rest of it in his studio. The results are impressive and I hope he continues this method with other scores.

Thank you "DS" so much for sharing this!

I recall the enthusiasm you had for this project in 00,01,02? Quite awhile!

I'm eager to see the film even more than hear the score....rare thing for me.

Pace,
-Sean

Umbrella's Blu-Ray set looks incredible, but I hesitate to purchase depending on what Full Moon will release themselves! Ah, what to do?!
