TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 20

REPLICAS---trailer released for the sci fi movie starring Keanu Reeves.

THE WALKING DEAD---trailer released for the mid-season finale.

Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0TeW__gwKcY

GAME OF THRONES---George RR Martin commented on the prequel series timeline, “‘10,000 years’ is mentioned in the novels. But you also have places where maesters say, ‘No, no, it wasn’t 10,000, it was 5,000.’ . . . So I think it’s closer to 5,000 years. Westeros is a very different place. There’s no King’s Landing. There’s no Iron Throne. There are no Targaryens — Valyria has hardly begun to rise yet with its dragons and the great empire that it built. We’re dealing with a different and older world and hopefully that will be part of the fun of the series. [Jane Goldman] is a tremendous talent.”

THE LOUDEST VOICE IN THE ROOM---photo shows Russell Crowe as Roger Ailes, founder of Fox News, from the Showtime miniseries.

STAN LEE---Stan Lee's POP! Entertainment released an open letter response to Bill Maher's blog post which criticized US adults for taking comic books too seriously which results in the infantilization of modern pop culture.

“Mr. Maher: Comic books, like all literature, are storytelling devices. When written well by great creators such as Stan Lee, they make us feel, make us think and teach us lessons that hopefully make us better human beings. One lesson Stan taught so many of us was tolerance and respect, and thanks to that message, we are grateful that we can say you have a right to your opinion that comics are childish and unsophisticated. Many said the same about Dickens, Steinbeck, Melville and even Shakespeare.

But to say that Stan merely inspired people to ‘watch a movie’ is in our opinion frankly disgusting. Countless people can attest to how Stan inspired them to read, taught them that the world is not made up of absolutes, that heroes can have flaws and even villains can show humanity within their souls. He gave us the X-Men, Black Panther, Spider-Man and many other heroes and stories that offered hope to those who felt different and bullied while inspiring countless to be creative and dream of great things to come.”

HALLOWEEN---an early draft for the recent sequel had Michael Myers killing Laurie Strode.

BODYGUARD---Richard Madden said he and creator Jed Mercurio will be discussing a possible sequel to the BBC/Netflix miniseries, “I’m having a conversation with [creator Jed Mercurio] in about ten days or something, when I’m back in the country, and we are just going to chat through some ideas. We never intended to make another one and I don’t know, I’m excited to see what he’s got..."

THE PROGENY---CW tv series underway based on the novel about an amnesiac woman discovers she is a descendant of Elizabeth Bathory, one of history's greatest mass murders.

MR. MERCEDES---AT&T Audience Network renewed the series for Season 3.

GATZ---Youtube Premium tv series which is a reimagined prequel to THE GREAT GATSBY where Jay Gatsby is mixed-race during the Harlem Renaissance.

TRIVIA---composer Lalo Schifrin was awarded an honorary Academy Award after receiving six Oscar nominations. His scores include DIRTY HARRY, BULLITT and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE. He also scored ABOMINABLE, a 2006 monster movie directed by his son, Ryan.

Lalo Schifrin receives his honorary Academy Award from Clint Eastwood.

Schifrin's scores include DIRTY HARRY, BULLITT and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE.

Schifrin also composed the score for ABOMINABLE which was directed by his son, Ryan.

For someone who obviously believes himself to be so intelligent and forward-thinking, Bill Maher sure says lots of idiotic, petty things. Apparently, his dislike of comics makes his opinion of them fact. I don't read them either, but the conveyance of the message doesn't detract from the fact that it has obviously touched so many.

Forgive me for asking, but why is Lalo getting the Oscar now?

Crowe plays Ailes/
Bale plays Cheney.

why not just hire OVERWEIGHT ACTORS in the first place, dammitt!
brm

anyone else sick of Christian Bale losing/gaining tons of weight for roles?
Its a gimmick, not acting!

MARVEL should have just ignored the insult.

Bruce, instead of writing 4 different posts, why not combine all of your issues into ONE singular post?

When he posts four times in a row, it unleashes Bettlejuice's best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who saw Beetlejuice pass out at 31 Flavors last night.

Joan Hue: Bruce, instead of writing 4 different posts, why not combine all of your issues into ONE singular post?

Joan, I don't think any of these Game of Thrones spinoffs is going to cut the mustard. Especially considering that Thrones itself has conceptually slipped since the first two seasons.

That's what happens when the novel author holds out on the TV show writers.

Cute, Justin.

BornOfAJackal, I think you are probably going to be correct about the Game Of Thrones' spinoffs.
I can hope but I also have to be realistic.

Bravo to Marvel et. al. for countering Mr. Maher.

I like Bill Maher, I often agree with or respect his opinions. But the man is in the business of offering them, and I suppose over time the drive to acquire new outrages with which to deliver a monologue takes him into jackass territory. This is one of those times.

Comics were media where considerable liberty was often taken by courageous talented under-paid and under-heralded authors to tell some pretty sophisticated tales, yes, with some fantastical trappings. Subjects were often broached before the same was done in other more popular media. Stan Lee was a giant to whom many people owe much.

Sorry Maher - you're wrong here.

Because Bruce can only search Google for what he "thinks" one thought at a time.

Maher's Friday night HBO show has the potential for some intelligent, in-depth discussion, but more often than not he doesn't put his guests' feet to the fire when they don't answer a direct question. Instead, guests feign righteous indignation and proceed with either talking points or the answer to a question that wasn't asked.

It makes for frustrating viewing.

Totally agree. I used to agree with his views and found his brand of humor pretty funny. But he's become the in the bubble, privileged one percent, get off my lawn, grumpy old fart who runs off his mouth without any logic, knowledge or reason.

To his credit, Maher has not been a complete tool. He has always lambasted political correctness and the humorless, easily-offended, Red Guard millennials who use it to strike down all who dare oppose them, even so-called "allies."

...but that's collectivism for you. smile

Because some folks here want every cue seperate.
No crossfaded or combined tracks (e.g. Shaun Rutherford)

The best thing that ever happened to GOT was the writers going off on their own. No disrespect to GrrM.
