Superb news, overdue but great that Lalo gets his recognition.

Clint looks in good shape for 88.

Lalo Schifrin finally getting an Oscar. I guess I can now throw out all those Christopher Hitchens books and go back to church.

The year Schifrin lost for Cool Hand Luke was a tough one. That year, arguably and in my opinion, Schifrin, Quincy Jones, and Richard Rodney Bennett were all nominated for their best film scores: Cool Hand Luke, In Cold Blood, and Far From the Madding Crowd. Bernstein won for one of his lesser scores, and the fifth nominee was Leslie Bricusse for Doctor Dolittle.

I've just watched the two uploads on YT again (I didn't realise there were two until now). Clint and Lalo are a great double act. Apart from the bit I mentioned yesterday (Lalo seemingly getting lost and forgetting what he was going to say next, then asking, "So, any questions?"), I love the bit when Eastwood's speaking about Don Siegel and says to Lalo, "He loved you, and I love you", and Lalo responds, "Yes, I love him too". Then the "immoral jazz" banter. Oh yeah, and in that difficult lull in the conversation (it did look a bit like two doddery old men just for a minute) Lalo says, "Well, it's nice talking to you". Brilliant, lovely, and I don't even think Schifrin was trying to be funny. Genius composer, great mind, great man.
