Who among the current crop of well-known female comedians, or "comediennes", if you prefer, do you like best? What are their best routines?

Please restrict your choices to living, present-day female comedians. We already know how nasty that Joan Rivers woman was. wink

Sarah Silverman had a brilliant show on Comedy Channel few years ago. Pure comedy genius!
Her stand up routine is good also.

Lisa Lampanelli cracks me up. I love insult comedy. Naturally wink.

I find Lisa Lampanelli to be one of the most vulgar and vile for the sake of being vile, "comedians" I've ever encountered.

Roasts of people used to be funny, but these Comedy Central "Roasts" are painful, filled with painfully unfunny people like Lisa Lampanelli. I had to stop watching them over a decade ago because it was disgusting. At least old funny roasts were filled with real piers and people who knew the person being roasted; watching William Shatner being roasted by a bunch of awful "comedians" and only two people that worked with him (that I recall) showing up is awful (Takei and Uhura).

Are we talking stand up comedians or actors who do comedy? I've never been fond of stand of comedy. I'd say from the late 70's on it gets it's laughs from gutter humor or mean spirited jokes. I've seen plenty of female actors do comedy well on television however.

I agree about roasts where its just a bunch of random people. I've never seen a CC roast.
But if it is done right its hilarious .i.e.Rickles
Lampanelli is brilliant on Howard Stern!
Vulgar is in the ear of the beholder.

There's still such a thing as comedians in this era of Snowflakes?

Back in the day, I liked the stand-up routines of Ellen DeGeneres. Although she hasn't done stand-up in 15 years, she will have a new stand-up special debuting on Netflix on December 18.

Ellen DeGeneres is pretty "old school" by now. I love her, of course, but she's 60 years old! That's just 5 years younger than my own mother.

Amy Poehler? Sarah Silverman? Ellen DeGeneres? Lisa Lampanelli?

Not compelling choices at all.

I'm tempted to charge up a Oujia Board and ask Joan! She has to have better material in "The Great Beyond" than the ladies mentioned in this thread.

Anyone remember how Ellen DeGeneres became famous? I do! She was in a freaking Showtime Network Channel amateur comedian contest. And I remember afterwards thinking, this chic is awful!

Chronologically.
Emotionally we are all 15 years old!

Until I see examples to the contrary, I'm going to err on the side of logic and state that contemporary female comedians tend not to be funny.

However, I'd be more than happy to listen to better examples of funny female comedians should they ever be provided. smile

So women are comically challenged and only men are good comics? Seriously?

Not at all. There are plenty of dire male comedians, past and present.

Which contemporary female comedians would you recommend?
