And now it's back in stock (along with SACD Matrix). OH HO HO HOKAY VARESE, what're you doing? Is Lionheart coming back too?

I would assume they just updated it to reflect a little leftover inventory. If you add it to cart it won't let you add any more than 27 copies. Probably what's left. As always, Varese needs another sublabel other than SOLD OUT. Maybe PSYCH or WE'LL GET TO IT WHEN WE GET TO IT would do.

Missing out on this, for the true Williams aficionado, would be almost as bad as missing out on The Empire Strikes Back.

varese simply swapped the stock of european rails for north american rails, unfortunately, that is all!

I mailed Varese. It was their last batch. Such a bummer. Either it sold out extremely fast, or the new batch had very limited quantity. Keep an eye on other soundtrack stores like SAE or MovieMusic. They may have bought a handful for their own stores and thats why it sold out as quickly as it did. They may not list the items in their own store until they have it in hand, however. They said they were going to email me when more came in. They never did. I just had to keep checking back. They’re something else.

I finally listened to the full film version of John Williams' DRACULA yesterday for the first time (yes, I picked this up right when it came out... sometimes these things sit for years in my library before I get around to give them a full attentive listen). This has always been among my favorite John Williams scores, and I very much like the original LP (which I have) and the Varèse release of the same, but I have to say this new release is miles above. And it is interesting how much better the score plays in full. The musical structure is much better, and while the original album played well, in comparison to the full film score it's more like a selection of cues (which it is) instead of a full blown classical composition (which the film score certainly is). Especially with "To Scarborough" now much better positioned to play as the "scherzo" that leads into the dramatic finale. The entire score plays more like a dramatic symphonic poem now than a selection of film cues. I always loved the score, but now I love it even more.

Totally agree, Nic. And I would apply the same thinking to Intrada's WAR OF THE WORLDS expansion (which I'm playing today). The original album was a decent, if somewhat randomly placed collection of tracks, but the missing cues, chronological order and much improved sound of the new edition takes the whole thing to much greater heights.

100% agree with the both of you. An utter masterpiece which plays as a nice darker sibling to Jane Eyre from the beginning of the decade, the complete score was a godsend and makes it come across even better. (Hopefully one day elements finally turn up for Jane Eyre to get the same treatment.) Yavar
