Not to again distract too much from the new score, but just have to point out: Surely the Amityville ripoff in Goldenthal's score wasn't his idea but required by the filmmakers. Too often around here people seem to think that temp-track slavery is the composer's prerogative, but usually they're just hired hands doing as they're told.

Given the rest of the exceptionally strong score, to me it sounds like Goldenthal just put in the theme as much as he had to and otherwise did his own work.

FYI Jon, I get a bunch of adware/spyware popups on my android phone each time I click on your link above, one of which somehow gets through my popup blocker and prevents me from being able to read the review

Really? That's bizarre. It's just a basic Wordpress site, so that shouldn't happen. I'll see if I can figure out what's happening. Thanks for letting me know.

No prob. I just tried again, and no popups this time. Go figure.

Just watched the new version (it actually started showing in Brazil today after being confirmed and delayed twice) and liked it better than the previous version (which I also like).

The main improvement is the more consistent tone (some of the previous version scenes were really mishandled like the Zelda scenes, the fight at the funeral). I think this new version is more cohesive and holds better specially in the acting departament.

The screenplay also handles better the character of Jud and his motivations.

I also dig the changes that were implemented probably to keep It fresh to those familiar with the previous version. The finale is worse, but it respects a logic and it is far from terrible or ridículos as some reviews had described It.

The score by Young worked great in the movie. It is more on the restrained side but I found it very effective and the family theme is lovely.

One member of a german score forum asked Christopher Young directly and got the answer, that there will be a CD and LP release in April.

The questions remain....

- "Where is it?"
- Or maybe: "April what year?"

Yes, Chris wrote me about a release in April. Hope, it's still in the pipeline... Fingers crossed that there will be a CD in the near future.

Not only is there no CD of this score out, there is not even an uncompressed digital download version? They publish an LP but not even a lossless digital version?

Saw the movie on Saturday and it's no masterpiece, that is for sure. Somewhat by the numbers and not all that involving, best thing about it was the cat (played by two excellently adopted shelter cats... yeah, from alley cat to horror movie star, that's the way to go!). Funny, because the best thing in the old adaptation was the cat (played by quite a few different cats) too. :-)

Good score though. Very efffective. Where as the film is okay but not particularly creepy I thought the alternative ending was an effective nod to the atmosphere of a film that wasn’t quite realised in the finished cut.
