Casting the wild bunch should be interesting but I'll be amazed if the film is any good. I'm sure they'll cast younger, though half the actors look ten years younger these days anyway.

Thanks for the update!

I'm pretty open-minded about remakes, but there are at least a few that should be left alone.

"Ikiru" is one. Don't touch it. I mean it!

oh God, no! Ive always dreaded the day they even thought about this. Some remakes are borderline justifiable but tackling this is like thinking its a good idea to repaint the mona lisa with blunt crayons. The Bunch isnt a film that can be remade - the whole essence of it, its power and poignance, came because it was ageing western stars playing ageing outlaws. They dont exist anymore.

Forgive them, Sam. They know not what they do. frown

I had to add that the remake is set in 1950s London.

Yes, I had read about that as well. IMO, "Ikiru" is fine just as it is and a classic and shouldn't be remade; particularly the way remakes are done nowadays.

If they just have to remake it, I wish they'd retitle it, ala "The Magnificent Seven".

Thanks for keeping us updated!

Oh calm down!
Every time one of these remakes is announced the fans scream "sacrilege" .
Not one. Not ONE has in any way eclipsed or damaged the reputation of the classic original. Critically or financially.

Rememer STRAW DOGS with Whatshisname?

Now go back to bed BillCarson.

That is valid.
Could be quite good.
I am fine with this approach.

Thank goodness. I always thought Ikiru could use a good makeover. Color will be nice for a start.

Hold up, they're remaking The Wild Bunch too? Somebody get me a calendar—is today Christmas?

Stop pretending you're Thor by pretending to be excited about shitty remakes. wink

While those remakes may not damage the reputations of the orignal films, those Zeus-damned remakes "clog" my internet searches for info on the orignal films.

I try to stay optimistic about the intelligence level of the younger filmgoer, inasmuch as a proposed remake of a film may motivate them to seek out the original film--and hopefully come to appreciate and value it MORE than the remake.
Am I being TOO optimistic?

The Wild Bunch is my fave western, probably my fave movie !!!

And I don't want, or indeed need a remake.

It's one of the last movies where a director had more or less the freedom to put his vision
to film, and make a classic !

LEAVE IT ALONE !!!!!!!!!

The thought occurred to me too. I get that they’re wanting to do something different with the character (a whole new take from Romero’s, from Ledger’s, from Timm and Hamill’s), but is this perhaps too different from the essence of the Joker? A joker afterall, while similar, is not the same as a circus clown, which is more the vibe I’m getting from these photos of Phoenix.

I'm kind of opposed to defining The Joker's origins, as that was something - as excellently played up in The Dark Knight - that has always been indistinct. After all, what experience could possibly make individual A as insane as The Joker? That is a challenging prospect. That said, I`m open to receiving whatever they invent.

As for Joker in that particular clown costume... he didn't always wear his trademark uniform, did he? I think it reasonable to theorize that at some point he may have worn something else, for some reason (!).

I and my fellow “Ikiru Purists” shall not calm down! We shall be heard! Our cause is just; our motives pure! We shall f*rt in their general direction! Our spontaneous protests with conveniently pre-paid and pre-printed signs and banners that loudly and proudly proclaim “SACRILEGE!”; with proper attribution (BRM) of course, shall cause the “Remakers” to think twice before deluding the youth of today into thinking that their version is anything other than a pale imitation of the original!
Who’s with us?!

The Phelps Doctrine: a person can emotionally "survive" any cherished film being remade into an inferior veraion, as long as it isn't OUR MAN FLINT.

"The Remakers"! Hmmm, I may have just inspired myself; might make a good idea for a song!

Jim, Bill, Tall Guy, Joan; ideas for a tune to use? "I'm A Girl Watcher" ("I'm A Remaker") springs quickly to mind; but I'm open to good suggestions for other tunes.

wink

Edit: What about using "The Backstabbers"

What they do?!
They take your fav'rite flick;
Screw it up until it makes you sick!
The Remakers (Remakers)!

I like the idea, but O'Jays stuff is pretty hallowed ground; I'd hate to commit one sacrilege to mock another sacrilege.
