Well I guess there's just no integrity in anything anymore... frown

LOL! I had actually posted a similar video of Mike on my "Hurricane Florence" thread yesterday as well.

https://www.filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=130375&forumID=7&archive=0&pageID=5&r=849#bottom

Seems there's something of a history with this sort of exaggeration. I saw a WaPo article decrying that type of reporting, asking them to stop exaggerating the strength of the winds, etc.

I have to wonder if the guys deliberately videobombed Mike. Couldn't some of the crew have given him a heads up to save face? I read somewhere that the original tweet of this has had nearly 20 million views! As I said in my other thread, Mike was our meteorologist in Greenville, SC for several years in the 80s, I feel kinda badly for him.

I've been tired of this type of reporting for years anyway; just show me remote camera video of the wind/rain. I don't need to see someone standing there trying to keep upright.

I wish the lying son of a bitch had tried that during an F5 tornado. Is that short bald guy still on The Weather Channel? He was their resident "storm stud."

I've never forgiven them for the firing of my Heather Tesch, and I never will.wink

I wonder if they do it subconsciously or if they are told to do it for ratings? When they report on Hurricanes in particular they seem obsessed with showing every little wave, puddle, or downed tree like the world has come to an end. That's not to make light of the death and destruction that truly took place. But they seem to go out of their way to make it "dramatic" live viewing.

Shepard Smith from Fox News:

Was that faked? Did he really say that?

You've nailed it. I realize that they want everyone to take heed and be safe, and I guess they show local destruction to underline their point. But something like this happens and undermines their credibility and I think it may make some folks less likely to seek safety.
There was almost a hysteria with Hurricane Florence this time as it was up to a Cat 4 early on and it looked like there were more reporters and weatherpersons on scene than rescue workers and residents. Seems everyone wanted to get in on the act(ion). It was like a feeding frenzy for news. I noticed that DirecTV had several extra weather channels available over the weekend; not that anything is wrong with that, but geez, I think we get the idea.

I learned long ago to rely chiefly on the cold facts provided by the Narional Hurricane Center. And while Shepard Smith is a sensationalistic pos, Fox has a superb website which also has useful infomation (MyFoxHurricane.com).
