Having just seen Colette with Keira Knightly, I was absolutely taken by Thomas Ades' score. Having perused the internet, I've seen no announcement of a soundtrack CD. Does anybody know if one is in the planning?

I am also interesting in hearing this, Adés is an interesting composer, but I am not aware of a release coming.

It is interesting to see a few composers from the "classical" field composing film scores this year. There is just not Thomas Adés's Colette, there is also David Lang's Wildlife and Caroline Shaw's Madeline's Madeline. I wonder if we will see at least one of them up for the Oscar, probably not - the projects that they worked on doesn't seem like the ones that will attract such attention, but who knows.

Colette has received excellent advance reviews and clearly Lionsgate has intentions for it to be a contender this awards season. I saw it on Saturday at a private SAG screening with Knightley doing a Q&A after the screening. Oscar nominations for Knightley, the Thomas Ades score and costumes are quite possible.

He’s a straight modernist. I will just die if he writes a listenable lush score.

Ades is an incredibly interesting composer. His Violin Concerto is a straight-up masterpiece, although I'll admit to not being blown away by most everything else I've heard of his. I'm definitely curious to hear this.

It's definitely not a lush score but it should appeal to those who like the film work of Michael Nyman and Philip Glass.

Having just seen the film I have to disagree with this comparison. Ades score is NOTHING like Nyman or Glass. I did find it lush, especially compared to what passes for a "romantic score" these days. There were some source pieces and classical works that were also quite well used and were arranged by Ades and Anthony Weeden.

Count me among those who would love a CD release which hopefully would include some of the adaptations of classical works.

Thanks for the link. I forgot to mention in my above post about a portion of the score reminding me of Herrmann's CITIZEN KANE score and the track PRINTING CLAUDINE L'ECOLE was the piece I was thinking of.

Thanks for this. I'm so bummed that there doesn't seem to be any soundtrack release planned (yet?) for Colette. frown These samples are better than nothing, I suppose.

Hopefully, if the film gets some nominations this year, the studio will put out a release. It seems so odd, though, that they wouldn't have put one out already.

Those cues are rather nice, but it isn't a pinch on John Scott's music for this same subject matter from 1991's BECOMING COLETTE:

Just sayin'.

A score release is officially coming from Lakeshore Records. smile No release date yet, just "coming soon". Hopefully that means sometime around the Blu-ray release of the film next week.
