I just want to say, they are saying there might be thirty inches of rain, serious flooding; and now the hurricane -- last I heard last night -- was starting to look like it's moving slowly along the coast, bringing more rain. Dangerous, life-ending flooding. Short of living in a high rise with plenty of food and water to last for a few weeks, there is no preparation that will be made if anybody in the red zone stays there.
I've heard the 911 calls of people who refused to get out of the path of such hurricanes and the 911 operator has to break it to the people: no help is coming. I remember one devastating call of a wheel-chair bound man who called because the flooding was up to his waist and still rising and the operator had to tell him it wasn't possible for emergency personnel to help him because of the hurricane in progress. He was doomed.
Don't be those people. Just saying. Save yourself.

Some people can't evacuate, it's not always the individuals fault. But yes, if you can leave the area it's best to do so.
There are services for people who can't get themselves out. I can't speak for how wide a net they cast to individuals who need such a services, since I've never had to seek one. I just know they exist.
Good words of advice, thanks all! There's a running joke here in SC about whenever snow is predicted that there's a big run on milk and bread, so get to the store early. Sadly, it's quite true often enough.
I fear the same sort of thing will happen in this case with bottled water, non-perishables, etc. and even price gouging; not that folks should disregard the warnings. For my area I'm more concerned about lengthy power outages, subject to change of course.
And I've heard of folks along the NC/SC coast whom are already refusing to evacuate. I don't know what they hope to accomplish by staying.
