This 1973 film originally directed by Richard Fleischer, is probably the ONLY film I've ever wanted to see get a total remake. Originally starring Charlton Heston, Leigh-Taylor Young, Joseph Cotten and in his last (and one of his very best roles ever), Edward G. Robinson. (I was quietly hoping against hope that Robinson would snag a Best Supporting Actor Nomination that year, but Oscar continued to elude the man.) I can't envision any actors or actresses in any of the roles, I'd simply like to see the film 'updated' with great special-effects, a decent script, and a new great music score.

Hard to see how it will have any impact if everybody already knows the Big Reveal. Even if they're too young for the original film, it's been parodied on the Simpsons. Well, yeah, one thing for sure: If I were to remake SOYLENT GREEN today, the fact that "Soylent Green is people!" should be established early on, at the very least for the viewer. It is already well known, so there is no way to re-use that as a dramatic payoff. The story has to be told differently today. Perhaps more focused on the fact that many people could know what it is that they eat, but don't WANT to know.. they want their own "alternative facts" to be true... something like that. It would have to be conceived from a different angle.
