I've never carried a snotrag, but some folks still swear by them. What about you? Yes, I say and I do swear by them: "I, Jackfu, do solemnly swear, that I will, to the best of my ability, faithfully carry my handkerchief each day that I live, so long as I have a pocket in which to place it and that I will use it only for the purpose of discharging nasal secretions and no other bodily fluids, secretions or excretions, so help me." I do carry a handkerchief, but normally only use it for sneezes, and, yes, the occasional runny nose; but I do wash my hands after use.

I have some handkerchiefs and in those cases where I wear a jacket that calls for it, they are there for decoration, though I never actually "used" them. Tissues are much more convenient for actual use.

Have you ever had to wash handkerchiefs?!! (Or handkerchieves if TG is watching)!! It s,not a fun job. Soak in a hot water bucket first for a day before going in the normal wash!! Yeeuuck. You forgot - or didn't know - you should soak them in salt water for a few hours first ... and then wash them at a high temperature on their own (i.e. not with the normal wash). And then iron them!!! And so for those who don't carry a handkerchief (my better half is amongst you) ... what's the alternative? - hope there's a bath/rest-room immediately available when that sneeze comes on all of a sudden - sneeze/blow into your hands (and presumably then wash) - carry disposable paper ones with you ... don't you find these dissolve in your pockets after a day or two (more quickly when you're hot) ... or carry a few inside a plastic wrapper from which you extract one, carefully so that it doesn't tear either the 'kerchief or the wrapper, in speed so as to be open against your nose when that unexpected sneeze arrives. And, if you used the 'kerchief to blow your nose, what then ... hopefully find a rubbish bin close by ... or carry the soggy remains with you until you find somewhere to dispose of it. Of course, the disposable hankie is far more suitable for the runny nose but for most days a clean nicely ironed cotton 'kerchief is the perfect accompaniment to the well-dressed man as it has so many other uses ... other than catching that unexpected sneeze! That said, if you do have a cold and are regularly clearing your nostrils ... hopefully in the sanctuary of your own home so not spreading germs ... you'll find the cotton variety far kinder on your nose than the paper alternative. Even if you're left with the job of washing them! And I haven't mentioned the environment - oh, I just have - just think of all that waste (incl. wrappers) ... I feel lost without a proper handkerchief, even when I'm wearing nothing but shorts ... and I've known many times when my better-half has called upon this (when clean!) despite seeking always to carry a plastic-wrapped packet of disposable ones in her handbag Put me down as a Yea. All these Dracula Sneezers who explode into their elbow pits look silly. I also use them for many other purposes, including when I get grease on my hands from fixing my bicycle on the road. I won't leave home without one!

Who wants a rag filled with snot in their pocket? Absolutely disgusting practice. People from the middle east agree with you, Snotty.... I mean, Solly. One guy from Turkey told me it was better to kerflew snot into the street than it was to put it into their pocket.

I've never carried a snotrag, but some folks still swear by them. What about you? By the by, Tafkaan, if you want to be as cool as Orson Welles, you call them "snotters". (True story!)
